Eagles own Saints 1st rd pick

Currently holding the 6th pick in the first round right now with the Saints sitting at 3-6. With the team they've assembled right now this could definitely be a case of the rich getting richer in our division.
This is what a GREAT GM can do for a club, they can make deals that will get a club over the top and into the SB! Unfortunately, we're stuck with JJ who has been a little LUCKY in the draft the last couple of years, but what happens when he takes another Taco in the first rd?

It was a smart deal by the Eagles as they took a bet that the Saints pick this year would be incrementally worse than the late teens pick they basically gave up last year.

They're in a great position to pick up a premium edge rusher next year with the caveat that their schedule isn't super daunting, but they're not daunting themselves.

I said it before the season, the eagles are set up to win and in much better place than us. They are the team to beat in the division

They get a 3-4 year window before having to hand out large contracts to several players but they are sitting prettier than us.

the only thing they have going for them over us is they dont have the jones buffoons otherwise I like where we sit

Its not just this thread and Im sorry if you feel like I was targeting this thread specifically. I wasnt even though this is the one i responded in. Its the overall vibe i get from this forum about the eagles. Im just not impressed just yet. Theyve improved but i think they are the 3rd or 4th best team in NFC and there is at least 2 maybe more in AFC that are better. Theyll come down to earth
I think a lot of it is nervous energy coming out as praise for them because as Cowboys fans we know we are going to have to pretty much win out and beat them in our next game to have a chance to win the division. I have been impressed by what they've been able to do so far this year. Yes they've had an easier schedule but they've beaten everyone on it and are 8-0. That's not easy to do. Their offense, whether you think Hurts is a legit QB or not, is firing on all cylinders running the RPO. Their defense is top 5 in scoring and yardage. Whether we hate them or not, these are all things we are going to have to overcome to overtake them in the division or beat them in the playoffs. If the defense continues to play the way they have been and Dak can continue to play like he did last game, we have a shot at doing that.

Plus are the Eagles just going to decide to keep drafting QBs every few years and then trading them away if their contract value gets too high? Because a team constantly trading away winning QBs, just to avoid paying them. Isn't the way to build a consistent playoff or Super Bowl contending franchise. Since they could be letting a good winning QB go, to risk drafting one which isn't as good or which causes the team to decline and stops the momentum they have been building up.

And even if the Eagles got lucky to trade Hurts and draft an elite Mahomes like QB. They would still end up having to pay him more than they would have to pay Hurts. As a franchise constantly letting go of winning QBs and drafting ones every few seasons, isn't a realistic way to build a playoff contending team.

Not realistic based on what? In 2013 Philadelphia won the division with Foles, then Philly traded him for Bradford and then traded away Bradford for a 1st, drafting Wentz. Brought in Foles again, Foles won a SB then Foles left. Then we traded Wentz away and drafted Hurts.

And through all this we’ve made the playoffs 5 of the last 6 years, with 4 playoff wins (and counting), and this year’s team is looking as good as any we’ve had in that span.

What is the basis that none of that was “realistic?” It happened. If Gardner Minshew was our QB this year, could we be 6-2 right now? At least 5-3? We’d still be well into playoff contention if we traded Hurts.

And we got a 1, a 2, and a 3 for that 2021 first we traded to the saints. The 3 was packaged for AJ Brown, and the 2nd rounder we still have from them for 2024. So if they’re bad again next year we’ll have 3 picks in the top 40

The Patriots, and their 20 year dominance over a completely incompetent division along with a fist full of rings, laugh at your strategy.
Once the Patriots took care of dominating their weak division and dispensed the best the AFC had to offer in the playoffs, they defeated the best the NFC team six times.

you mean the front office that has this team at 6-2 and has been one of the best drafting teams in the past few years while still finding a good ammount of strong value FA's to fill in the gaps.

that front office?
This front office that hasn't fielded a Super Bowl team in 27 years

WHY is there so much love for the freaking eagles on this board lately!?!

You don't go out and get all of the talent that Roseman has gotten and then start over with a rookie QB after Hurts has gone 8-0. They are absolutely going to resign him unless the wheels fall off in an almost unprecedented way this season. Letting a QB walk who has led his team to an 8-0 start just isn't how the NFL works despite what all of the armchair GM's try and say about Dak's contract. The only reason you guys are touting this idea so hard is so you can have some sort of "told ya so" moment that you think will validate your anti-Dak narratives. When you have a good QB you sign them, you don't roll the dice on a pick. There have been far more first round busts (that the Eagles are all too familiar with) than there have been first round successes in the past decade at QB.
The Eagles are “fools gold”. Soft schedule, and caught the Cowboys on their backup QB and still had a hard time winning the game.

Eagles are not going to win a SB this year; however, they are going to win enough games that they are going to have to pay Hurts premium money to keep him. If they wait until he is in the last year of his deal that may be even worse.

Hurts isn’t a “bad” QB. I wanted Dallas to take him in the 3rd round to backup Dak and push Dak, but he didn’t fall that far so it was a moot point. Hurts is not a top 5 QB.

If I were the Eagles I would trade Hurts for some high picks including a first rounder and go get me another young QB out of the draft of off of the scrap heap and develop him. I think that is the smart move.

Five years of cheap QB plus that team plus extra draft picks sounds like a tougher “out” for he Cowboys than for them to pay Hurts $45 or $50M per year.

The Patriots have a full list of rings, to go along with their fuller list of cheating tactics to get those rings.

Their GM will be moving up to select a QB..........Ya his name isn't Jerry.:muttley:
The Gagles are looking to take over the NFC East for the upcoming years and they are not hiding this fact.
Our options are few as the Cap will have us handcuffed.
Do you really think they'll move off an MVP QB?

Hurts is top10...not top5. They will be forced to sign Hurts to a mega deal, and it will limit them, just like we are limited now....but no GM or owner would ever have the stones to trade a seemingly young franchise qb, just to ride the Rookie QB Contract wave all the time. It kinda makes a lot of sense, as most non-brady elite teams in recent history are led by good young QBs on cheap contracts ....but it's just too risky personally for a GM to try and go that route.

That said, after this season, Hurts would fetch a lot more than a single 1st round pick. Dak would probably still get a single 1st rounder in a trade, and Hurts is much younger, and playing at a much higher level....so he's worth much more than that. Won't happen though.

They have some key players on the wrong side of 30, Jason Kielce , Lane Johnson, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham and Darius Slay. James Bradberry and CJ Gardner Johnson on one year deals. That’s a lot of potential holes that need to start being filled.
They have Kelce's replacement/clone on the team now, so when Kelce retires (99.999% chance that he does), it shouldn't be too bad for them. Johnson probably has another 3-4 years left; he's playing at a high level, hasn't given up a sack in over two years. Cox and Graham are gone after this year. I think Cox clears $14 million off the books for them. Slay is older but doesn't look like he has slowed down at all. At least one of Bradberry and Gardner-Johnson will be resigned. I wouldn't be shocked if Lucifer Roseman gets them both resigned.

Fun fact: Jason Kelce has more All-Pros than his brother Travis.

But look at our FO. We really have done a good job too. The O-line is solid despite not having Tyron. Hell, I'd say our O-line is top-5 right now. The defense is the best it's been in the 2000's. Our only real weakness is WR.

Be happy.

And 3 more than Fred Beard.
