The National Football League acted swiftly and came down hard Monday on Eagles defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey for his helmet-to-helmet late hit on Cowboys running back Julius Jones Sunday night.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that
the NFL has docked Ramsey his paycheck for the game against the Cowboys, meaning he'll lose $21,176, or 1/17 of his annual salary of $400,000.
As a proportion of the player's salary, that's about as big a fine as the NFL ever levies without also suspending a player. It's not uncommon for an NFL player who makes $5 million a year to get a $5,000 fine -- one-tenth of 1 percent of his salary -- for a cheap shot, so the NFL obviously thought Ramsey's hit was particularly egregious. Ramsey was fined $5,000 last month for a hit on Jets quarterback Chad Pennington, and he's been warned that he's coming close to getting suspended.
