lol. I would take a decade of missing the playoffs over releasing two 30+ year-old cornerbacks. They had to cut Bradberry too.
This is the heavy price Stephen warned us about.
Anyone willing to cut a couple of cornerbacks for a Super Bowl title? No way.
2024 Slay was great… 2025 version? Cornerback can go over the cliff in a hurry. Please NO!!! Guy is SO OVERRATED!!
The genius part is having the confidence to play the void year game to maximize your window… and at the right time you eat the losses into a couple seasons of cap pain… for that you Get rewarded with very high draft picks and repeat the entire process.Roseman built the bomb. The goal is to win Super Bowls AND deal with the financial challenges of staying competitive in the contemporary NFL. I don’t buy into the “genius” moniker, but Howie Roseman does his job. He’s good at it, too.
They’ve burned their two post-June 1st cuts on Bradberry and Slay. That’s all they get. Nonetheless, it always seems they have a plan. I doubt they can sign Becton, Baun, M. Williams, or Sweat. And the notion they’re “players for Garrett” is nonsense. No way they can afford to give up any draft picks. They don't have to clear out any room for draft picks with their current salary cap space. Secondly we are talking about 4th and 5th cornerbacks...so you would most likely want guys that are making around $1-2m. Not saying they will keep Maddox, because they probably would keep Rodgers over him, but the minimum salary for a rookie this year will be $840k, so a vet at 1.2m is only adding about $400k. So he basically would be competing against a 5th through 7th round or even an undrafted free agent corner.
It is unlikely they release anyone because the only one that gives any relief over $1m is Cam Juergens and they aren't gonna cut him. There are a few guys that they could make June 1st cuts but that isn't really going to help them in the first rounds of free agency. Same thing with restructuring and extensions, they can't make much room that way.
I think the Eagles will try to sign a couple of their own free agents and maybe try to add one or two outside guys. They were able to get a steal in Barkley and Baun exploded after a mediocre showing prior to this year. Sometimes a player just fits a system....that is the case there.
I think they resign Rogers and have him and ringo compete. Bring some projects Db’s late in the draft or undrafted like they always do. They also have Ricks still. Not sure how much they like him.I could see them bringing him back. I think DeJean stays at the nickel so they need a starter opposite Mitchell. If they aren’t sold on Ringo they could bring back Slay on a one year deal. He’s said he only wants to play one more year.
