Eagles Release Trotter

I still remember Jimmy Johnson saying this guy was a steal on draft day. I hated hearing those words from Jimmy (because he was usually right) and he was going to arch-rival Eagles. As a cowboy fan...this is a good day because Trottier was nothing short of spectacular against dallas....almost always making that big hit that ignited that defense. Now if Dawkins can follow suite...there will be nothing to fear on their defense.

I was definitely shocked when I heard the news.

I thought him and Spikes would make a nice combo.

I hope he calls it retirement, but I doubt that he will. If he does go to another team, I wish him the best and hopefully he can stay healthy.

I'm still a big fan of Trotter.
In his time, he was very good. Can he still contribute? I guess that is TBD.

1. He prob wont.
2. You wont if he comes to Dallas.
3. You wont be if he comes to Dallas.

AmishCowboy.....great picture in your signature. It looks like you have all of the Cowboy Superbowl MVPs except for Chuck Howley.

I was just wondering why you left him out?

I didn't think Trotter had much left in the tank either-but nonetheless, the guy has given us nightmare games over the years here. And yes, he was outstanding against the run(when healthy).

He won't be missed, nonetheless.

I Didn't, I just Cliamed this one from the list of Available one's found in the Image forum, I think Juke made this, I love it!

First Dhani Jones, now Trotter.

The menial tackle on a 1 yard gain isn't going to have the same pizzazz in Philly anymore.

Perfect !! that always made me laugh, after giving up 150 yards rushing in the first half, there would be a grand celebration for making a stop somewhere in the 3rd quarter.

i figured the opportunities were so few they better do their dance whenever they can.

Eagles dont mess around..... a few years back they released him before then resigned him cheaper .....Trotter days were numbered.....his knees are shot.

The Eagles very rarely keep vets that are declining or have injury issues.....well except for Mcnabb :) but maybe thats why they drafted a QB this year.

btw....they wont miss a beat minus Trotter....he was a liability last yr....pass coverage sucked and he couldnt run to the sidelines.

Based on last year I think they'll miss a beat in some situations and gain one in others. Leadership impact cannot be calculated, however. Spikes is the de facto leader at linebacker now.

read a report last year that his knees were so bad that after a game he could hardly walk for a day or two and had to miss a lot of practice time to be ready to play the next week.

I was suprised to see that he is only 29. He should get out of the game while he still can walk.

i met charles haley once in a valley ranch post office when i lived a few hundred yards from the headquarters. i didn't bug him or anything but someone else there also recognized him and asked him (this is after he retired) if he would consider playing football again. he said something to the effect of if he ever thinks about playing again he just gets up and tries to walk around for a bit and that alone talks him out of it.

he's better off anyway. imagine how his knee's would have felt after leonard davis running him over for a whole game twice in a year.

thank god I won't have to be annoyed by him twice a year anymore.

.... and the Eagles dont win either

unless there is a trophy for managing the cap and being frugal(well except for McNabbs contract)

Trotter can still contribute. Weighing-in on this discussion at the Eagles board revealed that his contribution wasn't the overall factor ...contributiions from Takeo, Gaither and others on the very deep LB corp were variables that had to be taken into consideration.

Trotter was slowing, while Eagle coaching staff observed enough to realize that a younger, stronger, faster, linebacking unit would ultimately serve the Eagles better. McCoy still brings the "veteran" element to the Eagles LBers.

I hated to see his dedication and "play to the very last drop" attitude go with him, but it was one of the hard calls that the coaching staff had to make.

Good hunting on another team's roster Trot!
