It’s been made sufficiently clear that Eagles owner Jeff Lurie wants a franchise quarterback, as he’s dragged around with his coaches and personnel staff interviewing the top prospects.

According to one report, he may have settled on one, which leaves only the small problem of getting to him.

During an interview on 97.5 the Fanatic, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein said the Eagles’ preference is North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz, who might not be available when they pick eighth overall.

What about their first rounder and Fletcher Cox? To the best of my knowledge, despite re-signing several players and spending some big money, they have failed to work out a long-term deal for him and they may feel it's in their best interests to trade him at this point. He's obviously a proven Pro Bowl player in the 3-4 defense as well, so Tennessee and San Diego could have interest?

That's the kind of creativity it will take for Phil to get up to the 2nd pick. I think if I were offered that deal, I'd push to get the 3rd round pick thrown in, but wouldn't let that be the deal breaker. Cox is a proven commodity, Wentz isn't.

I think a deal involving Fletcher Cox might be enough to get them up to #1 overall with the Titans. Tennessee needs a lot of players throughout the roster and I think Cox teamed with Jurrell Casey would greatly improve their defensive front right away. And looking at their cap situation, they look to have the room to give Cox the big-money, long-term deal he's obviously looking for.

And while they would inevitably miss out on Tunsil at OT, they would still have a top prospect available to them at pick #8.

Just a hypothetical anyway...

This years first and 3rd and next years first, 2nd, and maybe another pick will be what it takes.

That would get them up to San Diego (if SD would even do it) if that's what you're referring to.

I'm not how they'd get to 1st overall though. Maybe throw in a couple of good players.

I see...thought you were having them trade with Cleveland. Either way, it's not a far fetched situation at all. Every team at the top has holes to fill. Cox and the 8th pick in the draft instantly takes care of two of the holes (at least it should take care of two holes). AT pick 8, Stanley may very well still be on the board, so they would still likely get their LT. The silver lining in all of this for Cowboys fans is that Philthy loses Cox.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Good luck moving all the way up from eight to the top one or two choices. They have no second round choice, only two thirds.

Unless they are willing to move players, I do not see how they feel they can get enough together to package for that kind of move unless they are willing to give up next year's first.

If some team takes their first and two thirds, then we know the fix is on.

One thing to note.......... Lurie has done this before. He went on a whirlwind tour of QBs a few years ago and made a big hubbub about going to WVU to watch Geno Smith workout. Everyone in the media said the same thing............. they want a QB because the Eagles are spending so much time working out QBs. Draft came and they didn't take a QB, even when they had a chance to grab Smith when he slipped to Rd 2. They took Zach Ertz instead.

So this could be the media again jumping the gun.

I think they would have to go to #1 to get him but I'm sure most teams needing a QB is looking at how they could get the best QB in the draft. But not sure they have the ammo, and trading a guy like cox defeats the point. You don't get better giving away you best player

What you say is close to what I was thinking...it may be nothing more that Philthy just trying to throw everybody off their scent, or it could be them simply playing games to get some other team (Dallas?) to panic and move up in the draft when the need to do so really doesn't exist...who knows?

I think I would be sick to my stomach if Wentz is on the board @ 4...and we deal the pick to the Eagles for....1/8, 3/77, 3/79.

But I can see us taking that bait....

According to the trade chart...It's an even trade. 1800-1800

Don't think that's happening. He's not falling to 4 and in some alternate universe where he does, Jerry picks him. Don't listen to what jerry says, look at what he does and the fact is he wanted a QB in the first rnd very recently. Glad he lost that argument because he wasn't a nfl QB, but the people that talked him down before would be happy with Wentz
