Eagles S C.J. Gardner Johnson traded to Texans

run that by me again, too much of the proverbial word salad!!!

I gotcha, I'm on cloud 9 right now, uhh you can't bring me down if you tried
There is no need for me to try bringing you down. You are out of reach. Caffeine carries you in the stratosphere every freaking day. ;) :)

Eagles are set on offense except that they will draft a TE. Steen and Green will fight it out for the RG position if Becton leaves.

Howie has a load of picks now and will probably load up on defensive players. This is a deep d-line draft, and I'm guessing he drafts 4 edge/DT, another DB, one o-line, and be guided by the principle of BPA.
There is no pretending the Eagles have not lost significant personnel. Like the Cowboys, they are not as good right now as they were 24 hours ago. If Roseman is some sort of genius, and if Sirianni is what his gaudy resume indicates he might be, they’re going to get a chance to prove it this season. With the schedules facing all four NFCE teams this season, the Eagles may very well miss the playoffs. The Commanders are much better than they were 24 hours ago. And they want financing for a new stadium.

Green is a draft bust. He sucks. They must think the Hall of Fame O coach can salvage him for a backup role.
People said the same about Becton last year.
He has great talent, perhaps a great OL coach and HOF players around him help bring it out of him, as they did with Becton.

When Gardner was on the Eagles the defense was top half of the league. When he wasn't they were usually at the bottom half. That's a big loss for them. Also Slay was a difference maker last year. They now have 2 question marks because they got rid of Rogers who I thought would fill Slay's shoes. Their defense will be nothing like last year's which is good for the league. They were insanely talented with great depth in the secondary last year. Not anymore. Slay's replacement will probably be one of the stiffs that played in 2023 worst secondary in football. The safety position will probably be filled by another stiff, Sydney Brown. That's good news for us.

Ahead?
The cap hit for this season on
Kelce 12m retired
Cox 10m retired
Sweat 17m playing for cardinals now
Milton 4m playing for pats
Trying to do the math on Slays cap hit next year made my brain itch
The mess is starting to catch up!
LOL we've said this for like 5-6 years.

They will still be better than us next year.

They drafted Mitchell and DeJean last year and both were really good as rookies. DeJean will slide into Slay's spot and Mitchell was already starting. They will need that 3rd CB though but overall, they are going to be more than fine on the outside.

Lol,
Sweat and Milton weren’t exactly chopped liver.
This game is one of attrition. They’ve been mind bogglingly lucky with injuries the last 2 seasons. What are the odds of that continuing?
That 40 plus million dead cap isn’t going away anytime soon!
They played against Cox and Carter for all of their careers. Let's see how they play next to JAG. They won two superbowls in the last 10 years, if that is what "catching up with you " looks like sign me up tomorrow.

No!
It’ll just get increasingly more difficult for them to get ahead of as players get injured, hit FA and have to be purged!

Howie is up to something because he has accumulated like 10 picks in the first 5 rounds of the 2026 draft so far

This is weird.

But now I'm seeing there was "a thing" a few days ago between Slay and CJGJ, where Slay said Reed Blankenship was the leader of the 2ndary, and CJGJ seemed to take offense and disagree.

This tells me that CJGJ, while good, probably rubs people (even teammates) the wrong way....and also, perhaps the Eagles aren't done with Darius Slay yet, and got rid of CJGJ to make it peaceful when Slay returned at cheaper rate.

CJ was due $14 million in roster bonuses this year and next. By trading him, it is not the Eagles problem. That saves them $14 million after next year. As I surmised, Howie will dump players over the next 2 or 3 years to avoid the 2029 problem. The question is, can he find enough talent to keep the Eagles competitive. We knew the all-star roster was not sustainable. Now it is just a matter for how far they fall the next few years. He has been great acquiring talent in the past.

I still expect Hurts to get traded after this year or next.

CJGJ is a pain in the butt for sure.

I wrote up why we did it on the Eagles board on why playing a rookie or a backup instead of CJGJ isn’t the end of the world:

We banked on unknowns stepping up from Nolan and Quinyon and Cooper and Zack and Cam and Isaiah and Nakobe last year. Part of normal team building is hoping unproven players prove themselves. Even when we are "loaded”, we have tons of guys that stepped up where no one expected them to. Playing inexperienced players isn’t just necessary, it’s the norm. The Chiefs do it every year, the Bills do it every year, the Ravens do it every year, the 49ers do it every year.

Think about what we didn’t know this time last year when we gave CJGJ his money:

Nakobe Dean broke out. He’ll get paid if he returns to form after injury

Zack Baun broke out, and got a monster deal.

Jalen Carter stepped up, was even better than rookie year and cemented a historic extension.

Nolan Smith stepped up and is a very likely extension on a big deal.

Cam Jurgens made the pro bowl in year one, assuring his big extension.

Quinyon Mitchell broke out right away and is now only 2 years away from breaking the CB market

Cioper Dejean broke out, he’s a likely extension too.

Saquon Barkley was so good, he was underpaid by the big contract we gave him. So he gets another extension.

Oh, and if Mekhi Becton comes back, move him to the very top of the list of improbable money Howie didn’t expect to have to spend.

if you asked the FO last year, they probably assume not even half of these things happen all in 1 year. CJGJ became very expendable, as did Goedert. We need to free up as much money as we can in the immediate future. Unless you think we should keep CJGJ over Baun? Or Smith? Or Jurgens?

Howie is not perfect, but he is the best GM in the NFL at adapting to new circumstances. Gotta break some eggs

CJGJ already debunked that, called Slay a living legend. Howie just surprise traded him due to cap ramifications

Eagles really like Sydney Brown he’ll slide into CJGJ’s spot.
Kelee Ringo will take Slay’s spot since I think they keep DeJean in the slot. I would’ve liked to see them keep Isaiah Rodgers for competition / depth but is what it is.
I could see a safety in the draft.
OG they got back is the team banking on Stoutland getting something out of the kid.

D may drop off a bit but it will still be a very good unit.
