Eagles trade edge rusher Bryce Huff to 49ers

Not really…they proved it wasn’t a mistake by winning the SB without his services. Is he a better player than Huff? Without question he is. But he’s one player and one that didn’t fit the culture

Just because someone is a good player does not mean they help your team win. If he is demanding to be overpaid, then he can be a net negative to the team overall.

Good GM's like the Eagles and Chiefs understand this, and they are not afraid to trade talent for picks or to cut bait early when they made a mistake.

Howie makes mistakes and Huff was one. 49rs probably could have just waited and got him after he was cut. Eagle Eye podcast predicted this trade earlier this week and said outside of the 49rs nobody else would take him in a trade. He has history with Saleh and did produce something back then but on the Eagles he did close to zilch.

Every team has misses. They have very few this past few years, but this was a miss. But they throw their pride in garbage, identify it quickly (after 1 year) as a mistake, eliminate it and move forward.

I remember how when the eagles got him, it looked like a good signing for both of them and that he had great potential.

They (birds) identify the problem and address it quickly because they believe they made a mistake.

As you and others have also said, Jerry doesn't make mistakes, and by doing something like what the birds did with Huff, it would be admitting to a mistake. Nice thing about having a general manager who isn't the owner. Laurie of course had his input, but Roseman makes the decisions and is held accountable for what the team does. It's a nice concept in having separate duties and powers in holding the GM accountable.

Have little doubt that although the eagles may have taken a loss on the trade to some extent, they are more than happy in what they got out of him and what they will end up paying him for a mistake they made.

May be a good move for SF as well given that Huff knows one of his future coaches pretty well.

Idk....the article I was reading about this on, was kind of pointing out Philly's track record for players they traded away for picks. They listed out the last 15 or so players they traded away, and every single one of them went on to do almost nothing for the team they were traded to. I believe the only one that wasn't a complete dud was Kiko Alonso...who was just so so (but not useless) for the Dolphins.

The moral of the story was....buyer beware if you're trading with Philly for a player they no longer want, as you'll almost certainly end up on the losing end of that deal

So the Eagles basically bought a 3rd-5th round pick for Huff’s signing bonus. And he’s reworking his deal for cap alleviations, I wonder how much.

We still have the Haason Reddick 3rd round pick coming to us in the 2026 draft; if Huff’s pick is there too then that would be our 13th 2026 draft pick

Their are always multiple was to win, figuring out how to do it cost effectively is the key.

I would think a balanced team vs a lopsided team, would have the advantage.

How much of Huff’s pay this year are the Eagles paying? That’s an expensive 4th round draft pick, but better than nothing as he was likely going to be waived.

This year, just under 5 million is what I'm seeing.

He fit the culture he just wanted to get paid an amount equal to his performance. They could have had him cheaper than Huff, and he was considerably more talented, and proved himself as an eagle. The Eagles won the Super Bowl thanks to a considerably improved secondary to more than make up for their lack of pass rush from there DE's. It could have been a lot easier with Reddick. They made a big mistake, and screwed up their talent evaluation on Huff. It happens. It's to the Eagles credit that they recognized this and get rid of him instead of being stubborn and keeping a stiff on the roster holding the team back another year.
