Oh. Em. Gee. (Cowboys!)
That doesn't help us signing him as FA next year (assuming we don't trade for him this year) because sitting out just extends his rights another year.

I believe he can sit out until the tenth game or something like that without it hurting his FA eligibility. If someone can chime in to verify or correct me.
But then there's this in terms of accrued seasons....

That doesn't sound right, so unless something changed, that seems incorrect, but who knows at this point.
This doesn’t apply to Thomas because he’s already a vested veteran. He’s been in the league for 8 years, so he’s already accrued his UFA designation, so he just needs 6 games to accrue his “full pay” to meet contract guidelines.
Aaron Donald, on the other hand, has been in the league for 3 years and a player needs for 4 accrued seasons to qualify for unrestricted free agency. The 30 day rule is towards your free agency designation, the 6 games is to meet contract obligations.
They'll end up moving him. They've lost the hearts of their D, new defensive coordinator, they're about 10mill under right now and have a lot of cap next year.
An extra pick and the cap savings rolling over is just too much in their position. Time to re-tool.
I think the Cowboys are waiting to see what Xavier Woods looks like as the sideline-to-sideline center fielder in Kris Ricard's Cover3 scheme. If Woods looks the part, no trade and no big contract for Thomas. If Woods struggles, then I think the Cowboys make a move and give him a 3 year guaranteed contract for 13/14per.
