Earl Thomas update

IMO, the Cowboys have been wise in sitting on this. The longer this holdout by Thomas continues, the lower the price becomes. And it also signals the FO has finally learned some things about not overreaching for someone who may not be a long term answer because of age. Earl Thomas has been a great player since 2010. But for how much longer? We may get him, but we shouldn’t pay that much.

id be fine with anything 4th round next year or lower assuming a 3 year deal but its not happening

This may be “over-thinking it” on my part, but watching Stephen Jones talk yesterday (instead of Jerry) when asked about ET made me think this isn’t going to happen. Or at least not anytime soon.

When JJ starts talking about situations like that, it often signals they’re about to do something. When Stephen talks, it usually signals discipline. Jerry likes to “play”; Stephen likes to be conservative. We’ll see.

I tend to agree with you and I think that conservative nature of his is what's kept any deal from happening to this point.

Remember, when his Dad was the sole man in charge, he sent the Seahawks two 1st round picks for Joey Galloway, who was holding out for months. And then proceeded to make Galloway the 2nd highest paid receiver in football. He then turned that investment over to Dave Campo - a man totally unqualified to have ever be a head coach. And Campo kept Galloway and Aikman on the field during an opening-day blowout loss only to lose both to injury. Galloway for the season.

I for one am grateful that there are now other voices in the room being heard and that a man with a tendency to be reckless is being talked out of continuing to behave that way. If they're not giving up a 2nd round pick and $13 million a year, I applaud them.

Well, I don't know anything, so there's that. My gut tells me if they really wanted ET, they'd have traded for him already. I don't think he'll be a Cowboy.

Don't be hard on yourself we all "don't know anything". And we all have those gut feelings one way or another, and that's all that they are. None of us truly knows how this thing might go. But I still get a kick out of those who continue to be ignorant enough to talk like they do.

But for Thomas specifically, I'm beginning to think that the word is out on his asking price and that the player's own exorbitant contract demands are a big reason why no deal is getting done. There or anywhere else.

He's due to make $8.5 million and he's sitting out so it's a safe bet he's asking for the moon - this is his last chance for a mega contract. It's also one of the reasons I'm very wary about being the team who gives it to him.

He wouldn't be the first player who hit 30 with a big guaranteed deal who just isn't as motivated to work as he used to be, and suddenly becomes very average.

I think it’s a matter of time before he’s traded. Even if it isn’t to us. It’ll happen. Too much distraction and they’re rebuilding no point of having him there.

Much rather pay Tank, Elliott(iffy on him though, all signs are Dallas is going to ride him into the ground) and Prescott.

These guys sitting out because there not happy with making there 10 million dollars. Lol

According to Mike Fisher the cowboys were granted permission from the seahawks to work on a deal E.Ts reps or at least see what he was wanting. So it was too rich for the cowboys or the seahawks wanted too mich compensation. I think if the price is right he will be in Dallas. Im beyond sick and annoyed with this subject though, i feel like i cant even enjoy the fact that football is back. It almost feels like Adrian Peterson all over again.

Difference is Peterson's been done since he got suspended. Thomas probably has a good season or two left but that feels like a "win now" move and not one with the future in mind.

But at the time dallas fans wanted him he was still an unknown of how he was gonna be upon his return.

When their games checks are at risk, both will be there ready to play.....couldn't care less about whining overpaid babies and their demands...

I'll play safety for the Cowboys for $1 million. I too can get beat like a drum for cheap.
Lol. I hear ya. But I want a long term deal maybe 4 years 7 million with 4 guaranteed. Half up front with a signing bonus. Then time to take care of my personal issues so I will show up for preseason and have to skip TC.
