Earliest Fan Memory?

For me, watching Riggins and the Hogs back in 83, I was only 8 years old at the time, so I remember flashes of the games, not any particular one except the Super Bowl, which is still somewhat of a blur for the most part.

I do remember my dad was recording the game in VHS and I accidently sat on the TV remote and the channel changed and he went ballistic and almost broke the remote after he turned it back to the game :) We laugh about it now.

The Super Bowl where we stomped a mud hole in Denver's *****, I remember that game in its entirety. Probably the big turning point on my interest in football as I used to be a big basketball fan first back when I was a kid. Was always a Commanders fan, but that year and that game definitely leapfrogged professional football in my eyes to be equal with my love for basketball, at age 13. As I got even older, the NFL became my favorite sport and its not even a contest anymore. College football is second, college basketball a close second.

I fell in love with the Cowboys in 1968. Back in the 60's the big thing on TV were the westerns. Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Big Valley, The Rifleman etc. I wanted to be a Cowboy. Most little kids wanted to be either a Cowboy or an Astronaut. (I wanted to be both).

You mean when we came into RFK and ended the 11-0 run?

Yeah - if not for that game, we likely would have gone for the undefeated season and not rested starters against the Eagles in the finale. I remember thinking that Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin were going to be thorns for years to come...which they indeed were.

At that point in the season, your OL was beginning to gel as well.

my dad yelling at the TV in the early - mid 80's.

he was mad at Danny White a lot lol

I can remember my dad cursing the set in the early to mid 60's and puking right before the Ice Bowl.

I was a teenager when I became a Cowboys fan back on 1977, I remember I had a picture of Tony Dorsett from the Playboy All Team with his Pitt uniform looking nasty. I always lived in Miami and I remember after we pkayed Pittsburgh in the Orange Bowl I was an extra with my buddies for the movie Black Sunday that was filmed at the old Orange Bowl, I remember running down the field with guys with Cowboys and Steelers uniform running for our lives. The Good old Days!

Nov 15 1987 Hershal Walker game winning run vs the Patriots in overtime. I was hooked after that. When hershal was traded i was mad. lol

What got all of you to become fans of your team? Just curious.

For me it was the 1981 season. I was 6 years old and remember the Skins losing twice to Dallas that year and getting bullied in both games. Despite going 8-3 to finish the season to finish 8-8, Dallas was a clear step ahead until the next year.

My dad (RIP) used to get very verbal during the games, particularly against the Cowboys. Neighbors could hear him down the block! That infectious energy rubbed off on me. He always used to scream "Sack The *******" while we were on defense.

Reflecting back on it now, I kind of wish I hadn't been as spoiled as I was being a Skin fan in the 80s. The last 20 years have been mostly forgettable, but games like these are what make being a loyal fan worthwhile.

I must be older than dirt as I first saw the Cowboys play in 1960 in the old Cotton Bowl days! Meredith was still @SMU and I was 2nd Lt. in the USAF. I'm now 78 and have a hard time remembering my own name now!:D

The Ice Bowl was the first game I ever watched. I tuned in by accident. I was 8 and hardly new pro ball existed. I am part Indian and lived near DC. I therefore instantly hated the team called the Cowboys. When Bart Starr sneaked in I was elated. The Packers remain my 2nd favorite team to this day.

Hail!

Icebowl here too. Packer fan forever. Had to be rebellious against all the Cowboy fans in the house.

Ah yes, Palidan. I didn't see it when it was on the air originally but watched some old time videos of them. Pretty good as well.

Dec 75 was the first game I remember watching at 11 years old. We beat the Commanders that day and a few weeks later lost to the Steelers in the Super Bowl.

The first game I remember was one of the worst moments in franchise history. It was the catch, I was five years old. Growing up as a kid the Cowboys actually weren't that good (late 80's) but that's where I formed my love of the team.

Aikman to Harper

I was 2 about to turn 3 on the 24th.

I remember my Dad yelling "We're going to the Big Dance!!!!!!!"

The loss to the Niners in the 1994 NFC championship game. I had watched some games before that, including at least one of the Super Bowl wins over the Bills, but this game stands out in my mind as when it really started to matter and eat at my core.

A few days before the game, I actually woke up in a cold sweat after having a nightmare in which I was, of all things, walking through a Blockbuster and overheard someone talking about the Niners' victory over Dallas. I thought I had overslept and missed it :laugh2: (in hindsight, that wouldn't have been such a bad thing!)

The first Cowboy game I remember is Super Bowl V, the first football I ever remember watching was Super Bowl III!

1978, cowboys vs. atlanta. it was Roger Staubach, pearson and the crew. cowboys down 13 points with 4 minutes or so to go, and they make a classic roger the doger comeback and win the game with two late TDs. I thought, damn, this team is got character and heart and no quit. and I started following them and then became a fanatic over time!!!

SuperBowl 12...how couldn't you love the cowboys after that game?

Super Bowl V was the 1st football game that I was aware of. Did not become a Cowboys fan until the following year. Super Bowl VI did it for me. 1/16/1972 to be exact.:starspin
