Early Free Agency predictions to contend in 2017

This team is young and no need to panic with the way the season ended. So we look forward to next season and how can we come out in the win column once in the playoffs. Some of the things I would do.......

Defense is my top priority period. We must build this up if we want to contend

1. Chandler Jones DE......this guy would come in day 1 leading our team in sacks. Will be pricey if Arizona can't retain him but if he hits free agency I would go after him. (Some like JPP etc....doesn't matter but we need a monster at DE. Think Haley)

2. Calais Campbell DT......im double dipping on DL and making another splash. Would be doable since Campbell is 31 years old but a 1 or 2 year contract and he will perform and earn every penny. Can pass rush and stop the run, having a DL of......
Irving, Campbell, Collins, Jones would be looking superbowl ready. Add some more young talent in the draft and we on our way.

3. Jelani Jenkins OLB........wouldn't cost much as he had a down year but would pair up really nice with Lee and Jaylon. Jenkins can cover and play the run and I can't imagine what he could do when Sean Lee teaches him that film study.

Pipe dream 4th sign

Prayers and hope only but if we could somehow pull Eric Berry with this free agent class our defense would be upgraded in a major way even without the draft. That being said we most likely get Campbell, Jenkins and Berry as far as realistic goes......possibly

I would resign Claiborne and Carr but look to draft a corner high in the draft.

With Berry signing you keep Jones at safety with him or move him back to corner and resign Church or Wilcox....take your pick

I'm also resigning Terence Williams but looking to draft a Ryan Switzer in the draft. Can be a huge weapon for us especially in the return game immediately.

The Cardinals have plenty of cap space to sign whoever they want back. I highly doubt either of those players become FA unless they flat out don't want them.

Berry will probably get re-signed, but the Chiefs are in a less friendly cap situation than the Cardinals. I don't follow them well enough to know their policy on restructuring players, but if they don't do it much, one of Berry or Poe will probably hit FA. They only have 4 million right now so we'll see how they handle it.

Overall, I think we would be lucky to even sign one of Jones or Berry(or any high priced FA) if they're available. The Cowboys don't play in the deep end anymore so it's probably just a pipe dream anyways.

There's a lot of free agents this year on DL, i'd love to go get some guys. I don't think Campbell or Jones are in play though.

KC will probably have to decide between Poe and Berry. Whoever they don't sign, i'd pay. 100%. Poe/Collins inside, lawd have mercy.

Then there's guys like Addison, Sheard, Branch. None are going to get "huge" money. If we want to give this defense a boost, i'd make a serious play for JPP. We'd have to break out the bucks though.

I don't think they really want to spend a lot, unfortunately. If we want to make a noticeable difference on a "budget" then i'd target Addison and bring Ware back home. Ware still wants to play, rotate him on 3rd downs.

Then I'd draft a DE first round, should be BPA. Hopefully Tapper can come back, but that gives you Addison/Ware/1st rounder/Lawrence/Tapper and Irving for DE/DT duty. If Tapper can come back he's going to be a good player. That's a pretty big boost in one year.

Secondary and WR are just tossups. I expect Carr/Church to be back. Give Mo an incentive deal based on playing time. I'd really be looking for a guy in FA who can play though. Same with WR.

Right I agree with both. I don't think we will be huge players either but I'm just speculating.

Jelani Jenkins wouldn't cost much and I think can be a boost. Hankins is a FA as well with NY. Tons of guys out there that can help

I would love to be wrong and see Poe or Berry here. Berry is a very good player and a good guy in the locker room. Have wanted him here since he entered the draft. Just don't want to get my hopes up for anything.

I really want Berry, but I think the chances are slim to none.

Berry, Addison, Ware, Boldin, then the fillers like T.McClain, Carr, Church. Carr made a ton of money and is really involved in Dallas, agreed to the salary cut this year. I think he wants to win.

It'd require some cap manipulation but it'd be manageable. Hell of a way to go into the draft.

WR is an area I'd hope they look at during free agency.

Kenny Stills, Cordarelle Patterson, and Kendall Wright are interesting names to look at. Or adding a veteran like Pierre Garcon.

Williams is better then all those recievers and Garcon will most likely cost more

Don't see it happening with Chandler Jones. He'll get signed or tagged. Campbell could be a nice add though. Him and David Irving together could be a real challenge for offensive lines and shorter QBs.

Rather than Berry (I'm not interested in $10mil Safeties), I'd like to take a run at Arizona's Tony Jefferson. He was a favorite of mine coming out of Oklahoma. Didn't get drafted for some reason and we didn't bring him in as an UDFA. Became a starter in his rookie year and has become what I expected. Playmaker.

Hankins would be interesting to me. He isn't a pass rusher, per se, but he collapses the pocket and gets to the QB. Great vs run. But not a Marinelli kind of DT though so why get my hopes up.

Not one of those will happen. But a more realistic list might be:

Tony Jefferson - SS - Cardinals
Mario Addison - DE - Panthers
Patterson - WR - Minnesota

Three players that improve the team, don't break the bank. Then you can sift through guys like Carr and Claiborne and bring one back. Church is probably gone but you might want Wilcox back. TWill would be gone but Butler could be back as the 4th WR.

I wouldn't mind that haul at all. I like Tony Jefferson as well

I don't believe they will be major players in free agency.I think they will try to resign their own,and build through the draft.Maybe a bargain free agent, but not a high priced one.

It's the annual let's make a list of FAs the team won't even consider.
If we sign one player people have heard of that will be about it
I think they will continue to build through the draft and add a few mid level guys we have to google to find out about

The team will do the same thing it has done for the last 5 years..completely avoid top tier free agents.

For better or worse, it's McClay's strategy. Free agency is fun for the fans and the media but a lot of times the good teams avoid the top tier, large guarantee contracts.

We may be a little more aggressive by bringing in more guys but they aren't going to pay more than what they budget.

That player you heard of may be Demarcus Ware.

It makes sense, there will be mutual interest and his salary will be within our range. He may be done but you could do a lot worse as a pass rushing specialist.

It likely won't be popular, but I'd look at Ted Ginn.

Sure, he's a '50-50' guy strictly as a receiver, but he gives you several other traits.

A deep threat. He still has to be accounted for when he's on the field and this team doesn't really have that kind of receiver.

A proven returner and a definite improvement over Lucky Whitehead, who was notably being phased out of the return game.

A speed player who could handle the jet sweep role in this offense in addition to his other abilities.

And he's been paid a reasonable salary of $2.1 million over the last two years so he wouldn't cost big money.

After seeing him choke away that 49ers game a few years ago, I don't think I could justify that signing to myself.
