My fav bands from the 80's were The Cult and Janes Addiction. And they are still performing today and it's about the music, not the nick nack fueds.

I love The Cult and Jane's Addiction, PJ. They are awesome bands. The lead singer of Jane's Addiction, Perry Farrel, looks just like my brother used to look, minus all the stage getup. But in the face, skull, body, he looks just like my brother did. Him and Peter Wolf were spitting images of my brother, Kenny, back in the 80s, minus the colored hair and makeup. lol. But both Cult and JA are fantastic bands!

I was kiddin about Boy George and Wham. Lol Duran Duran was okay. The Reflex was the only song I really liked from DD. You didn't judge. Props.

Aww, man, Fletch. I believed you. lol. Boy George and George Michael are awesome!! But, I'm a girl, soooo.......lol. And hey, Duran Duran were my first concert. :) Have you never seen the video for Girls On Film?? The uncensored version??;)

Can't comment on DLR or EVH. They both have their good points and bad points. But no one can argue that they are both incredible at what they do. Especially Eddie, who is not only one of the best guitarists in history, but also an accomplished classical pianist. Dude is uber talented.:)

Wasn't the uncensored version of girls on film banned from MTV or am I thinking of someone else?

Yes, the uncensored version could never have been shown on MTV. lol. It is fairly R or X rated, depending on how sensitive you are. lol. Actually, by today's standards, it could be considered PG, but being a video, you know. It has sexually explicit scenes, and nudity. It's a very hot video, really matches the hot song very well, in my opinion. But I'm a nerdy 80s chick, so, lol, it's probably not hot at all.

As a band, I do love Van Halen and am a huge fan of Eddie's guitar work but as individuals, not so much. My preference was Led Zeppelin in the early years and then later, Judas Priest, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Pantera... Cowboys from Hell may very well be my favorite tune all-time.

Been a big Cult fan since the early days, when they were called the Death Cult. And loved Janes since their 1st album. Saw the Cult in their hey day around '87 and '90. And saw Jane's I think around '89 or '90 if I remember. (don't remember exact date) I was in a slam pit, and Perry jumped off the stage and landed on me. I somehow pulled off his red/orange dreadlock. Still have it today.

Both bands are in the top 3 of mine along with The Doors.

Here is what Perry looked like with the orange dreadlock. My piece still has the metal ring in the hair.

I think Roth is upset that he ended up joining a band that's named after someone else.

Interestingly enough, the priginal name of the band was "Mammoth"... the record company forced the name change to Van Halen if I recall correctly...

Actually Roth is the one who suggested they use the name "Van Halen" because it sounded more imposing, another name thrown around was Rat Salade. And btw Roth had a huge hand in pushing the band to the forefront in terms of popularity. When he met the brothers they were playing 10 minute note for note versions of Cream songs and couldn't even get arrested. With his suggestion they learned hundreds of covers that got a bigger crowd in the door{read female} and the rest is history.

Saw them in 2008 with my son who was a junior in high school, got him out early drove to Dallas caught the show then spent the night in a hotel. He missed a day and a half of school for Van Halen. I was the coolest dad ever at his school. Lol

I never saw Van Halen, but I did see David Lee Roth at the Bronco Bowl when he opened for Corrosion of Conformity.

It was Roth's idea to call it Van Halen.

He was probably on drugs when he suggested it. If I'm in a band and it's named after members my name is going to be in lights with the rest of them or I'll be performing solo. lol

I saw them live two weeks ago and they managed to not kill each other. So there's that.

I can't imagine Roth is anything different from what you see. That guy can't be more than half an inch deep. But, yeah, he seems like he'd be a pain in the butt, too.

Not picking sides but........Roth is burnt and Eddie is pickled.

Bad combo.

I'm glad they stayed together long enough to make some kick *** rock-n-roll before they got all old and sensitive.
