Edge more of a day 3 priority? 30 visits

It’s very odd to see so many late edge rushers but not a single top guy brought in. With the volume of names, you know they are looking at the position, but why so many developmental types?

I’d actually be happy if we’re drafting a developmental guy that needed to get bigger and stronger but had pass rush juice. We’re targeting the bigger, stronger dudes that likely lack the burst to ever be above average players in the NFL.

Williams is more developmental to me bc he sucks against the run but at least he can give you some pass rush juice.

They are certainly looking at others edge rushers, just strange why they brought in so many low level guys. We know Quinn was making his rounds during the pro day circuit. This is just confirmation to me, that they want to use all their resources on fixing the offense this yr and trying to keep the defense together. Outside of Gregory, the whole group is pretty much back, but the offense is about to see a major turnover.

I think you’re discounting how much they’ve already visited with Sam Williams outside of the building.
Not at all, he is a major target by the team, but they also brought in a handful of day 3 prospects.

Double-dip .......one the 5th rounder?????

In fact, with three 5th rounders, I could see them double-dipping a couple of positions ( DE and OL )
It's possible, but they already have numbers within the DL, not many spots open for developmental prospects. We can make a case for replacing Hill, Bohanna, but that's about it.

:hammer:

When you’re picking at the end of the round, your picks are all practically a round later.

If the Cowboys or anyone else think they can sit and wait for Sam Williams at the end of the third round, they’re in for a disappointment.
I agree 100% but that might also be the reason they take Zion/Green with the 24th pick. Please don’t let Lloyd or Karl be there at 24 and the Cowboys pass them for a guard.:D:eek:

I'm leaning toward pulling the trigger on Williams with 56. Whether he's a 2nd or 3rd is splitting hairs a bit. Get my OL with 24, Williams -56 and WR-88.
That seems to be a good strategy. A minor trade down, to get an additional pick could give us more ammo to move around and target some of their top guys.

Unless Davis slips to 24 somehow, DT is bound to be ignored yet again.

Do they continue to throw 2nd and 3rds at that spot for minimal return, or get a stud via another method?

Probably neither.

Get ready to welcome some shiny new skill players to Dallas. Probably another corner somewhere along the line....because they cant help themselves.

Hey, not like we don't need those too.

Whether they brought Williams ‘in’ or not isn’t a big factor for me. I know there’s significant interest. And in my opinion, if there wasn’t any trace of ‘past issues’, there’s no way you could touch such a productive SEC pass rusher in even round two.

Count your blessings that there are teams dropping him because of dropped charges and take him at #56 and don’t try to get cute.

Almost every media scout views him as a 3rd rd prospect. Some have legitimate sources within the NFL Circles. It will depend what grade the Cowboys have on him and who is available? You never want to reach to fill a need. They have ammo to trade up if they decide to do so.

We have heard some 30 visitor names over the last few weeks. Surprisingly, not 1 top Edge player, a couple of 3rd rounders, but many on day 3:

Sam Williams/Mjai Sanders-both are considered 3rd rd prospects at this juncture.

Isaiah Thomas, Michael Clemons, David Anenih, Luiji Vilain-these are all firm day 3 prospects and would be 5th rd candidates.

Some of the visitors the Cowboys have no intention of drafting, they're part of a smokescreen to obscure who they are really interested in. And by not bringing in an edge rusher they may be trying to make other teams think they're not going to draft an edge player when, in fact, they are.

Anybody (not saying you, just to be clear) who peruses that list of players and thinks "we'll see players drafted from this list" doesn't look too deeply into the draft process. No team is that transparent, lol....

The Cowboys have a strong history of drafting players who they brought into their facility, especially ones outside the top 2 days.

For my money, this is a year to trade up. With T. Smith at the tail end of his career, Z. Martin well on his way to that point, Lamb on his rookie contract for only 2 more years (and if he really explodes this year you would want to sign him to a new contract next year before he has another monster year and his price zooms way way up, e.g.) and so forth, I don't see the Cowboys have the luxury of waiting for a bunch of low draft picks to develop, which in itself isn't guaranteed.

Get some quality talent on the lines NOW, for one. Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak.

I'm not enough of a draft guru to say what picks to trade, how far up to go, etc., I'll just say trade up is the best course of action this year...

Yes but not every player. If for no other reason than the players they bring in may be selected before Dallas is able to...

I think Sam Williams is a solid 2nd round prospect. The other guys listed are Day 3 guys so to your point, it looks like the team is prioritizing OG at pick #24.

Was Karlaftis one of our 30 visits?

OK sign me up for David Anenih...why is this dude not getting talked about more? 6'2, 250+ with 34 inch arms...4.7ish 40 and solid production. 30+ career TFLs and 20+ career sacks.

Can't find a lot of tape on him, but he looks to have solid burst and bend in pass rush downs.

He's not getting talked about much because there are lots of players (relatively speaking) with similar traits, guys like him get lost in the shuffle. Also played in a minor conference.

Wouldn't mind getting him, but he's a developmental player, Cowboys need someone more polished this year.

Imo....

No, they didn't bring any of the 1st rd edge players in for a visit.

When I say trade up, I'm saying using those 4 5th rd picks to get it done. They can use their 4th and those picks to get on top of the rd or package their 3rd and 4th to move up from 88.
