Yes but not every player. If for no other reason than the players they bring in may be selected before Dallas is able to...
The smoke screens usually come from their 1st rd selection not so much with late rd prospects. For example, we knew that they really like Xavier Woods, they eventually traded up to get him.

That’s exactly where I’m at. But it’s still a toss up for me in round 3 between WR and TE if Jelani Woods is still available at 88.
I think Woods will be the first TE off the board.

Almost every media scout views him as a 3rd rd prospect. Some have legitimate sources within the NFL Circles. It will depend what grade the Cowboys have on him and who is available? You never want to reach to fill a need. They have ammo to trade up if they decide to do so.

Or they could just take him at 56 and not get cute.

Could be. His stock is really in the rise and it feels to me like everyone else has shifted up and down since the draft process started. But Woods’ value has seemed steadily upwards.

I think taking a Guard early, opens up the draft as they almost have to use 56 on that position if they went in another direction. Don't have a problem taking him earlier, but not at the expense of addressing our weakest area being the OL.

No. I’m fine if they want to go OL (guard) at 24 but then I think they should take Williams at 56.

except Hill was really a sixth round prospect…smh

I'm leaning toward pulling the trigger on Williams with 56. Whether he's a 2nd or 3rd is splitting hairs a bit. Get my OL with 24, Williams -56 and WR-88.

This is exactly where I am. If we think we can hit on a pass rusher in the 3rd we’re dreaming. Other teams might be able to but we can’t. We also can’t hit on OL outside of the first round. We have however demonstrated the ability to hit on 3rd round WR’s in Williams and Gallup. OL, DE, WR, TE in that order.

Tells me there's a good chance they may double-dip the position......hoping to find a 2022 starter and developmental type to replace DLaw in couple of years.

Sam Williams in 3rd.

Amare Barno in 5th.

That's what I'd do.

Double dip at DL and OL too.

:hammer:

When you’re picking at the end of the round, your picks are all practically a round later.

If the Cowboys or anyone else think they can sit and wait for Sam Williams at the end of the third round, they’re in for a disappointment.

This is why Cowboys need to trade down from 24 and pick up higher 2nd and/or 3rd round picks.

The more picks in rounds 2-4 the better.

Standing pat is a bad strategy for a team with so many needs and FO unwilling to spend in FA.

i just think back to Max Unger and that abysmal 2009 draft. They sat on their hands and the guy was drafted just ahead of them. They had no plan B, panicked, and proceeded to draft a bunch of trash.

I agree…but it may not be because they are late in the round. Perhaps it’s just because Williams is really good. A 12 sack SEC pass rusher.
Ya, I see place rate him as a 3rd and I have a really hard time seeing him go that late

Double dip at DL and OL too.

Double dipping at DE is a little much. DLaw, Golston, Fowler, Armstrong, dude we signed from Jets last year.

Im a fan of Mafe and he and Williams are neck and neck to me. Both guys have the Robert Quinn Starter Kit to me. Mafe is probably a late 1st rounder. Williams is going lower because there are some character issues. Even so, there is a possibility he wont even make it to 56. Guys that have a high likelihood of being 10 sack guys don't tend to fall into the third. Frank Clark didnt fall that far and he had DV arrests in college back when the NFL was really cracking down on it

2009 is an example of how trading down can go wrong. Sometimes you have to go get your guy. Its also worth noting that Leasan McCoy was the top player on their board at the time. You have three choices: Two get you a Pro Bowl player. One gets you an All Time Worst Draft. They picked the latter

Kind of odd that both our best modern success and failure in trading down was centered around C's

In their defense, some of it was really fast trash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It really just depends on who is there.

The guy who I love and who I think will be available at our spot is Demarvin Leal. I think he's a real player and will pan out to be much better than advertised. Cam Jordan type. He's a bit under the radar. He's a game wrecking pass rusher.
