I want nothing to do with Barnett after watching his vids. His first step is absolutely awful. He's terrible with his hands too. Actually, considering he likes to initiate engagement and then just ride the OT, he's perfect for this team...

No one will agree, but after watching a ton of those videos, I think Taco Charlton is the best edge player in this draft, even ahead of Garrett.

Yeah, Taco is really nice. And agree, if he'd been healthy all season, he might be a top 10 pick. But I like Barnett. He's a work horse that is polished. He reads the snap extremely well, which is why he's often able to get a yard plus jump on the tackle. He just does everything very well and consistent, which is why he builds up production.

If Taco or Barnett is there in the early 20s, I could stomach a trade up for either. I doubt they last that long, though.

Barnett had 13 sacks, all against SEC competition (and the Nebraska game), and had a sack against Cam Robinson in both the games he faced him. He also gave Commanders pro bowl OL Brandon Scherff fits when he faced him 2 yrs ago.

Myles Garrett had 8.5 sacks, 4.5 of them against UT San Antonio. Recurring pattern with him. Against the best competition, he would disappear. Last year (2015), 12.5 sacks, 3.5 against Nevada, and his freshman year, 11.5 sacks, 7.5 of them against OOC scrubs like Rice and Lamar. Barnett had 12 sacks this season in SEC play. Myles Garrett had 12 sacks against SEC competition in all 3 of his college seasons combined.

Garrett will likely be the #1 overall, but if I were making the call in Cleveland or SF, Jonathan Allen is a much better football player, I'd take him over Garrett every day. Garrett is a physical specimen, but he's got Jadaveon Clowney inconsistency and fragility written all over him.

My issue with Kupp is he spent too much time in the slot. I didn't see him beating many people on the outside.

Every Tennessee game I watched, Barnett stood out. He was disruptive. If he gets into the 20s, we need to trade up to get him.

Tim Williams draft slot will be mostly determined by if he passes the combine drug test I suspect. If he does that then it shows that he is smart enough to understand when you absolutely have to stop taking stuff.

IMO, the Cowboys just can't afford to risk a pick on a guy like him, given our Randy Gregory issues.

Derick Barnett is already a grown man and will be a hall of famer barring serious injury. Speaking of that he has never missed a game of football at Tennessee. He has great bend for a guy his size and has several moves including bull rush. He was unblockable in 1 on 1 in college and has made several 1st round O-lineman look silly. He too scherff to the woodshed as a freshman a couple years ago. He also has a great motor and is a leader and a great young man. Last time I saw something like this from my alma mater was Eric Berry. Let's not let this one get away.

Been watching a lot of Dewaune Smoot and have been really impressed by this kid's motor and disruptive ability.

Illinois had him playing all across the line inside/out which is a bonus because the Cowboys like position flex.

I see him as a possible 2nd/3rd round prospect with the kind of player that could step-in immediately to the rotation giving high-output snaps in Marenelli's scheme.

Motor isn't a cliche draft term. If you watch Smoot in contrast to Charles Harris you'll see the dramatic difference in a player that chases down plays and one loafing around when the ball has past him.

von miller was said to loaf in college. coaching matters. I know we're not used to seeing it much in Dallas but it's actuallya real thing.

Just watched tarrell basham against Appalachian state after he was mentioned on the draft show. Seemed a bit raw but was disruptive. Might be a decent day 3 investment with hopes of him contributing in 2018.

Barnett's bend is really good and he has the strength to hold the edge and not get blown off the LOS. His change of direction is not great and he needs to develop a better inside move, but he was the only guy I saw get consistent pressure, mostly with his outside move and bend. He is able to get very low to the point he is at these OL's waist level. He ends up on the ground a decent amount, but watch any 3rd down and 5+ yards to go and he was affecting the play with either a sack or pressure. Alabama basically ran everything away from him, team would roll away from him because they could not block him consistently. I would love for Dallas to draft him, but I can see the Ravens picking him as a Suggs replacement.
