Egbuka runs 4.45 at OSU Pro Day

How do you rank the 1st rd receivers, assuming Hunter is more of a corner? I have Golden, T-Mac, Burden, Ebuka. Ebuka as a #2 receiver makes a ton of sense, but too high for 12.
Based on pure talent / play I’d have:

TMac / Burden
Golden / Egbuka

It sounds like there might be some off the field stuff with Burden though so if that is true Tmac is #1.

Egbuka is high floor guy just not an elite athlete so I think what you see if what you get. Golden has a nice finish to the year but is small and has one of the worst production profiles for a 1st rounder WR in a looooong time.

I don't like the idea of trading down just to trade down or drafting a WR because he has the mentality of a #2. I want a dawg, and the dawg I see is Luther Burden.

Take it FWIW….

WR EMEKA EGBUKA

Egbuka put any questions about his speed to rest on Wednesday as he ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, a time plenty fast enough to strengthen his standing as a likely first-round draft pick. The shifty receiver also proved just how quickly he can change directions by posting a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.12 seconds, which would have tied for the third-fastest time among wide receivers at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine.

Egbuka also had a strong showing running routes and catching passes from Howard during the quarterback’s throwing session, capping his day off with a deep-ball catch that prompted him to celebrate like he had just scored a touchdown in Ohio Stadium.

4.45 on the Ohio State track is not that fast. Others had him closer to 4.5.

My favorite first round WR. All of these guys--Tet, Burden, Golden--would be drafted as a number two to Lamb. Only Egbuka is a 'sure thing' in that role IMO.

And he's far above the next tier of prospects, like Higgins or Noel, which I honestly wouldn't want to draft until the third round.

Really, if we want a second WR from this draft that is better than Tolbert, I think its between Tet and Egubka.
You basically hit it on the head on why I wouldn’t draft any of these guys at 12. You don’t draft a player at 12 when the ceiling is a number 2 receiver. We draft CeeDee and Dez much later knowing they would be number 1s one day.

I'd rather get a top prospect at 12, for sure. But the team has hemmed itself in without getting anybody in free agency who could legitimately step in at WR.

I really do like a few of these second/third round guys at WR, like Jaylin Noel, Higgins, Bech--but are they going to step in and be better than Jalen Tolbert?

It's a bad draft to absolutely need a starting WR.

Saw a good podcast yesterday with McShay breaking down the receivers/TE's. He did also mention that same thing about Burden, also wasn't as high with T-Mac, think he was coasting last season compared to 2023. Believes the Cowboys could be the first team looking to drafting a true WR (excluding Hunter) and could have the pick of the litter. He loves Golden. Also has some interesting insights about some slot receivers and your guy Savion Williams.

Yea I like his pod just bc of how he talked about what he’s hearing from teams.

A lot of awesome smaller slot types that could probably be had in the 3rd or 4th.

He was especially high on Higgins teammate in Noel.

I truly believe the Cowboys are targeting a 1st rd receiver, unless something unexpected happens. Going to be either T-Mac or Golden. If they trade back, maybe they target Burden or even Ebuka.

I see a lot of potential busts in round one. Emeka seems like a very safe pick and probably the most polished WR. NFL.com has him ranked 31th overall so he definitely looks like reach at 12. As far as what they'll do in four weeks, they've been very consistent in alternating offense and defense in the first round so a WR in round one would definitely buck the trend.

I'm worried about Golden and why he didn't get more yards, BUT he did have Ewers throwing it to him, so he gets a bit of a pass on the production thing.

Don’t know the player but I’m REALLY getting sick of the WR/CB build from the perimeter inward thing.

Focus on the trenches, specifically on defense. How many times over how many years are we supposed to get smacked on the ground and never do a thing about it….except give large money to a guy we already know has been part of the problem, and pray that your recent first rounder figures it out?

I realize we need a WR2, but this roster is NOT a one year fix. No need to attempt to worry about fixing it all right now, which is impossible to do with one particular draft without extra picks anyway.

Find out if Tolbert is going to be the best in the league as he claims. Gave up a 4th for Mingo. Give them a shot to step up, and if they don’t, get your WR2 next year.

My problem with Egbuka is just a lack of upside.

No shot he ever is a #1 WR.

But in a trade down I’d take him.
Looking at wr second contracts, I'm not sure if you get a good wr I believe young wrs will be the best value/dollar besides top 3 qb in the draft.
