Man, I don't remember Roy being that fast. Seriously, I'm in shock.

Anybody know why this kid wasn't invited to the combines ? I know it's a highlight film, but it almost looks like a science fiction flick.

There isn't a defensive back in this draft who looks as good as he does.

And .. ?

The kid plays in the MAC, so he isn't some Patrick Crayton that no one knows about.

Before his workout, he was an UDFA. He ran a fast 40, moved around well in some drills and suddenly people fall in love with him. So did Mike Mamula.

Raiders fans are in denial right now about how big of a reach they took. I even saw one Raiders blogger who literally said that DHB and Mitchell were the two best players at their positions. I am not joking either.

But really, if Mitchell were half as good as his highlight tape shows, do you really think scouts would not notice him before his workout?

He's twice as fast as anyone else on the field. Wow. I'm actually kind of rooting for him now.

:hammer:

Mike Mayock said he never heard of him up until 3 weeks ago. Looked at some film, and still rated him a 7th round pick.

This was beyond a reach. But the guy can hit pretty good it looks like.

Even if you don't fall for the speed aspect of it, just take a look at what happens to the ball carriers he hits.

You can't teach that.

I'm glad you brought this up because here's an interesting twist to this story:

At the beginning of the second round, the Bears told Ohio
safety Michael Mitchell to stay by his phone because they
planned to draft him at No. 49. But the Raiders beat them to
it, taking Mitchell two spots earlier.

"When [the Bears] did that, I was like, 'I'm going to be a
Chicago Bear,' " Mitchell told the Raiders media during a
teleconference. "That's what I was thinking."

That's what the Bears were thinking, too, until Oakland
raided their second-round cupboard.

"Unfortunately the players we targeted at 49 did not fall to
us and we weren't in a position that we were able to move
up ¿ we just didn't have enough," Angelo said.

I'm with RW, someone dropped the ball on this kid. Even if he can't cover worth a dang, he was still an impact player.

Parson was the one everyone was talking about on that Ohio team. Supposedly the best cover corner in the draft (only 5'9 though) so SOMEONE should have been keyed into this guy. Obviously, only the Raiders' scouts were.

Obviously Mayock and all the other paid draft analysts dropped the soap on this one. His 7th rounder comment was just a CYA reflex. He had no idea who this kid was.

the Bears too..

But there has to be something more to this story. There's no way somebody who looks this good on film can get past so many people in the business. No way, no how.

Do you believe Mayock's "i watched the film, he's a 7th rounder" comment?

I like Mayock alot, but if he watched this, even if it's the complete films and not just the highlight, and he still gave him a 7th round grade, then I want to see the " low lights ".

The reason for that is that even it's just highlight, which is obviously biased, there are two things this film shows this kid has in abundance that you cannot teach:

speed and power.

I don't care if you're a division III player, when ball carriers react the way they did when this guy hits them, and when you can see how much ground he can cover wether it's blitzing, in coverage, or plainly catching a runaway ball carrier, there's no way this guy can be assigned just a 7th round grade.

What Cowboys' safety, in the history of the franchise, has any highlight films that's even remotely close to this ?

It's amazing that such an incredible player couldn't he even make third-team All-MAC or be better than fourth on his own team in tackles.

Delmas played in the same league, made first-team All-MAC and led his team in tackles -- by 25.

Hmm, I guess everyone else who ever watched any MAC games and any Ohio film must have dropped the ball, too. Everyone but the Raiders and Bears, that is. They're the league's model franchises, after all.

That's EXACTLY what I'm asking.

No, I'm not. This film, even if it is just highlight, is simply mindblowing.

Who has played for the Cowboys that has had this type of highlight coming out of college ? Charlie Waters ? Cliff ? Because neither Thurman or Michael Downs ever hit like this. Woody was a LB in college and about the only guy who might come close was Thomas Everett, that I can think of. James Washington was a punisher, but he didn't look this fast.

The guy has good instincts and is quick but his tackling is horrible. He is a hitter and doesn't wrap up at all (just like Roy Williams).

There's a reason why he wasn't noticed until the combine folks. A big time workout and a great highlight reel doesn't make him a player.

If this is all true and the Bears were prepared to take him at 49, then they wouldn't have traded that pick to Seattle and Max Unger would have still been on the board, provided the Browns didn't take him. Al Davis irritates me even more now. lol
