With all the dumb faces and Hail Mary throws, Eli is an Ironman. Just like his brother and Farve were. I respect the hell out of that about him. That's all I respect, but it is admirable, considering athletes sit out for hang nails etc these days. Chaz Green cough cough......

Both Eli and Peyton are protected by the football gods. It evens up the odds of being a great college and pro quarterback, yet having to endure what their father was forced to.

Their father, Archie Manning, a truly great quarterback, was doomed to a career with the New Orleans Saints during an era of probably the greatest futility for an NFL team in history and during a time in which free agency did not exist.

In his first six seasons, Manning and the saints won more than three games once. He made the Pro Bowl during their magical 78 and 79 seasons when their records were 7-9 and 8-8, the latter being the only non-losing season in Manning's career.

Keep in mind, this was before the quarterback friendly rule changes like "in the grasp" and head to head contact, and increased roughing the quarterback limitations. this guy got beat up every week.

Archie Manning suffered one of the worst fates for an elite college quarterback entering the NFL in history. He never participated in a playoff game. He went through five different Head coaches during his 11 years with the Saints. He never felt a shred of glory, for which the quality of his talent deserved.

It was so bad that his sons winning two Super Bowls each and remaining healthy actually evens the odds of being great quarterback and being screwed by terrible circumstances.

Eli regularly gets planted in the turf. He just keeps getting up. The Giants are a better team this year on both sides of the ball. We're better than how we played them last year.......will be a hell of a ball game....
How are they better on defense?

Really well written post from a unique perspective. Can't stand Peyton or Eli but Archie was okay with me during his era.

Or...defenders tackled Romo harder because he was proven to be the most unprotected quarterback in the NFL by the refs and to some extent his o line during the middle of his career.

A couple of the takedowns of Rome looked like full weight on top of him with the intent to drive him into the ground rather than a tackle to simply take him down

Eli Manning has had remarkably good health for a QB. Part of it is that he throws the ball almost before the center hands it to him.

The Giants are predicted to be in a hunt for the NFC East crown because of the defense and that potent group of wide outs.

Having said that, with the porous line the Giants have and Eli's frail physique, and a lack of a running game, I think this is the year that Eli gets planted into the turf and goes on the IR. It's shaping up to go down just like that. His good luck has run out and Father Time is marching on him pretty rapidly.
Eli gets rid of the ball very quickly. He has ever since the HC/OC originally became the OC.

His average time holding the ball is one of the lowest.

By consistent I just meant consistently shows up to play. I've always maintained Eli is at best an average to below average qb, even in the SB years. At best.
He is terrible as a QB. He is Favre like when it comes to being available though and you have to be available to be valuable. I hope he plays 15 more years with his sorry self Haha

Lets hope. It seems that OL could well be his undoing. Time will tell.
