DAL didn't re-sign Romo because they had no choice.

They realized he was top QB and wanted to keep him.

They don't waste draft picks on QBs because they have one already that isn't going anywhere.

If they did not sign romo what would they have done ?? well they would have drafted manziel !
They had no choice. Romo is a top qb and any team is going to stick with that, rather than start looking again.
GB had rodgers on the bench for 3 years and when farve was done, they just put rodgers in and never missed a beat.
Was that a wasted draft pick?

Since he worked out - no. But how many 1st round draft pick QB's have we seen over the years that busted big time? TONS!

you hit the nail on the head

Manning, nor his agent are going to say they want to be the highest paid player in the NFL but the nature of the situation says he probably will be. If they made an opening offer, you can be sure that offer makes him the highest paid player.

and I'll add, this is great for us. the giants being clear of his salary worry more then his game worries me.

If they put the franchise tag on him his cap next year would be close to 24 million dollars making him one of the top paid QB's in the NFL. So he is going to get a fat contract no matter what.

Of that $24 million, how much is Manning going to see after taxes, fees, dues?

The cost of living the NYC area is higher than Gimme's living at the Mission in Farmer's Branch.

true, you have to draft the right one, but if you do by the time he starts playing he knows the playbook and how to read defenses etc.
If you develop them properly.
and at any rate just getting a decent one would be a better and cheaper backup than orton or wheedon, and better than vaughn.
I do doubt the ability of current dallas coaches to develop a good QB though.

Since you brought it up.....

Question: If Dustin Vaughn is the future at QB, with his upside, how long before he is considered elite?

Babe Laufenberg: I have not hidden the fact that I like Vaughn. I have actually been very vocal in my support. But to use the word “elite” and Dustin Vaughn in the same sentence would be a mistake. Here is what I see; a smart kid with a big learning curve after coming form West Texas A&M. A good arm, good pocket presence, and enough athletic ability to make plays outside of the pocket. But here is the best I can say about Vaughn. He has a chance. And I am not sure that there is a better place in football at any level for a quarterback to learn, with Jason Garrett, Scott Linehan, and Wade Wilson all on the Cowboys staff. That is the Holy Grail of of quarterback minds. With apologies to all the faux “quarterback gurus” out here.
