Dude... they traded FOR Rivers that year. Rivers was part of the Eli trade.

And Feeley? Feeley sucks.

Why am I not remembering it that way? I gotta look some crap up, AND clean out my crack pipe, I guess.:

Yeah I remember when it happened. I was wondering why the Giants would trade all those picks AND Rivers for a lesser player.

Sorry guys I just watched the interview and I disagree with the assessment.

He was asked 6 questions in a row about that last pass and then after he said it was a bad throw and on him they continued on.

He had pretty much covered what the play was, what he did wrong, what he should have done etc and then they pop in with some question that went along the lines of what were you thinking.

The guy made a mistake. He knew it and they were hammering him for it and he did not like it.

How this can be construed into an overall psych eval of him and his family is a bit off base.
Hey, I'd be happy to see him get angry. At least he'd be showing an emotion. He just doesn't seem to have any fire. Maybe that's his personality. That's fine, if you're on a team like the Steelers or the Chargers or the Bears (where you've got professionals). Unfortunately, he's playing on a team that has some of the biggest prima donnas in the league. Pouty sulky pompous attention-seeking prima donnas who don't play nicely together in the sandbox even when they're winning--when they start losing, well, they turn into the whiners that we know Shockey, Strahan, & Barber to be. Someone as colorless as Eli just can't lead a team like that. Ironically, you probably do need a Plummer who's enough of a fat-headed jerk to handle those other fat-headed jerks.

Hmm, he's not passionate about football? Someone should give him Ricky Williams' number and they can go... "hang out" in India together.

How great would that be?

It's quite possible that Eli's seemingly disinterested attitude is a classic psychological defense mechanism. Some people use it when the stress becomes too great to bear. Poor Eli.

Why not? Eli looks like he's stoned half the time anyway...

Absolutely! That was HUGE that day. Manning gets picked by the Chargers--& stands on stage with that hat looking like he'd been hit in the face with a fish. Then the Chargers pick Rivers a few slots later. Then we started hearing rumblings that there would be the trade. Sure enough, by later that day (maybe even that round), the trade was announced. I thought the same thing--that the Giants were nuts to give up all those picks to get the lesser player. By the end of that afternoon, the NFL had whisked Eli to Giants stadium (& somehow some Giants fans had been rounded up), & he was introduced in front of a live crowd. (You have to wonder what those fans think now.)

What led to Brees' re-emergence was the negotiations on the part of Rivers' agent (who also reps Parcells, BTW). He insisted that, since SDO had made the trade, Rivers should be considered the first pick & get paid the same as Manning. The Chargers refused & the negotiations dragged on thru most of TC (if I remember correctly). That's really why Brees got to start; Rivers wasn't ready to go because he'd missed so much of TC. Brees seized the opportunity & played lights out. So, they couldn't afford to let him go the next year either (& LT came out publicly saying he wanted Brees to stay). It was the injury that gave them the excuse to let him go. Fortunately, it's turned out well for both Rivers & Brees. Meanwhile, you also had a kid named Roethlisberger who languished until late in the first round. Things have turned out pretty well for him too. Ironically, the one who's fared the worst has been Manning.

either way, it's a negative for Eli.

1. If it was him, he looks like a whiny little brat, and a moron.

2. If it was his dad, he looks like a whiny little brat, and a baby.

It's his career, whether he made the decision or he let his dad make the decision, it should still be him that gets criticized for it.

Yeah, I agree with this.

You know, at the time of the draft, I really thought Eli had a little something extra to him that Peyton lacked. While Peyton was the football-all-the-time guy, Eli's seemingly laid-back ways, I felt, could potentially add an element to his game that Peyton lacked: being cool down the stretch.

Peyton can get uptight and I didn't think Eli would -- assuming, of course, he was as dedicated as Peyton.

Looks like I couldn't have been more wrong.

Eli's just a bad quarterback right now. Plain and simple. He lacks leadership. He's bad down the stretch. He's inaccurate. He's inconsistent. He's turning the ball over.

Since about October 8, it's difficult to find a single redeeming quality about his play. Other than his name, of course.

I do think he'll get better. He's bound to. He can't be this bad.

But I also think it's becoming evident he lacks components that he may never develop, which would worry me if I were a Giants fan.

Until something changes, which could happen, Eli's a quarterback that defenses will line up to play. It's just too easy for them right now. Heck, even Houston almost beat him.

I think some interesting points were raised in this thread whether his heart is really in the game. It doesn't seem to be at this point. Maybe the losing is getting to him, or maybe there's some deeper issues concerning his passion for the sport. I saw Giants fans even asking this same thing on some of their boards.

Heck, you'd probably be hard pressed to choose Eli over Jason Campbell at this point. Campbell, even in his occasional inconsistencies, has already shown some more redeeming qualities.

While I somewhat agree with your reason for Brees' re-emergence, I have to say that I think the biggest boost for Brees was the development of an unknown offensive line that suddenly gave Brees a lot more time to throw the football. This slowed the game down for Brees and allowed him more time to scan his reads downfield. That, and the emergence of the best tight end in the league (in my opinon), Antonio Gates.

Thank you!

I still vividly remember that day & how funny it was! He refused to actually wear the hat, so he held it in his hand. Honest to gawd, if he'd have been holding an actual cowpie in his hand, he'd have looked less uncomfortable.

Wouldn't that be something? If even the Skins ended up with a better QB then the Giants.

Very well said. Eli just isn't charismatic or "Type A" enough to take control and impose his will,,, he just follows suit whenever the goof-squad members start dropping balls and screwing up. Eli is a sheep... baaaaaaaaaaaa-aaa

And it's not like the Giants are overloaded with offensive leaders.

Call me a hater, but Tiki seems to crumble with the best of 'em. Shockey will talk smack but doesn't seem to fire anyone up other than himself. And Plaxico is the head of the class of receivers that give up on routes that lead to interceptions.

Agreed on all accounts.

Tiki crumbles and thinks of how he's gonna throw his coach under the bus. Same with Shockey. Burress? He makes Randy Moss look like a choir boy.

Did you see his PC? He just looks like he's annoyed he has to play ball & was inconvenienced by losing & being asked all these questions. I don't like Peyton, but you know Peyton would be taking a loss like that hard. Eli just looks like he expects to be handed his $$$$, & why are people bothering him by expecting him to play.

PFT had an interesting comment a couple of weeks ago that seems more accurate every week. Eli acts like someone who's playing not because he wants to play but because it's expected of him that he'll play. I keep comparing the joy of Romo (or Delhomme or Favre, even after all these years) to how Eli has acted--even when the Gints were winning--& that comment rings true. He acts like he's bored with the whole thing.

Or something like that, loyal fans of Air America Cowboys. 50-000 watts of unlicened and uncensored accurate thought and opinion.

Cant delve into the psyche of Eli. But his way to N.Y. smacked of family ego, probably engineered by Archie. Archibald Manning, by the way, was the most overrated QB in recent history. OK, Bert Jones, too.

Now Eli threatens to be the most overrated current QB. OK, Vick too.

Where was I . . . . Oh, yes, of the whole QB family, only Peyton doesn't suck. But, too, Peyton is pretty darn ugly.

In terms of being an outspoken leader, the Skins have the better QB. I was laughing when I heard Campbell's subtle jab at the Commanders' front office and their tendency to go after free agent acquisitions year in and year out. As for all the other qualities, Campbell has only played a couple of games, so it wouldn't be fair to compare more active and longer-tenured QBs with someone in his position.
