Ellis is getting a raw deal and it's pathetic

In the early 1990s, Wannstedt and Butch rotated the defense linemen to keep them fresh. It's a good strategy IMO.

That is what gets and keeps your defense running at a high level. I for one think this is the best strategy. I like Ellis but being a team player is his role. He is getting paid well and he has a good chance to get a ring. What could be better? If he was smart he would work hard, play a reduced role, cash his checks and play for more years than he could otherwise.

Everything's always better when Smokey the Bear is involved.

He is very educational.

The Answer is disgusted over the way this entire situation is being handled, and also disappointed by a majority of the fans opinions on the matter. Why are so many people assuming the role of the ravenous wolf and suddenly turning on one of the best players we've had this last decade? Ellis has every right to stand up for himself and voice his discontent given the lousy circumstances involved.

I knew that eventually, you and I would see eye to eye about something... apparently, Hades just froze over...

The Answer is glad that he skipped the voluntary practices yesterday and hopes he continues to do whatever is necessary to send a message that this is not acceptable.

It's time to trade or release Greg if we aren't willing to make him a part of this team in the capacity he deserves. It's not about the money, he just wants a commitment from the front office and coaching staff that he has a role with this team and can finish his career here and not go out like a chump. If the front office refuses to comply than The Answer is all for trading Ellis for a starting offensive lineman since that's really the only area we still need help with. Ellis is 31 and it's only fair he has a chance to go play for a team that he can be start on if he truly don't 'fit into our defensive scheme'. He shouldn't have to play second fiddle to players that have only been with this team a year or two, regardless of their potential.

Ellis might not be a superstar, but he is a consistent and well above average in his pass rushing skills. In years past he was the focal point of double teams and attention from opposing offensive lines because he was that good and there was nobody else available on the opposite side to create pressure. He has averaged 8 sacks the last 4 years and been the player that bums like Ekuban or Wiley could only dream of. In fact he likely would have had well over 10+ sacks last season had his time not been reduced in favor of younger players. It's time for the front office to quit politicking and either give Greg what he rightfuly deserves or move on....

why don't the cowboys just let the inmates run the assylum? why don't the players take a vote everytime bill parcells or jerry jones come up with an idea?

answer, you seem to be confused here. this ain't a democracy. if ellis is incapable of carrying out orders - ship his arse out.

this ain't campos' cellar-dwellin' cowboys no more. ellis doesn't rate as high with a decent team. his mouth is writin' checks his *** can't cash.

are the cowboys a better team with him in the fold? sure...

but the bigger question is "how much distraction is he worth?"

the answer (no pun intended)... ellis is runnin' outta rope. the split-second he's a no-show for a mandatory function - i hope they can his arse.

parcells'll put put up with some **** from a player - but he better be a world-beater. and that just ain't ellis. he needs to get a grip on the reality of just who and what he is.

This is sad. I can't believe how stupid Cowboy fans are. For anyone, who sees Ellis as the bad guy, they obviously don't understand the bad position it puts him in.

i am not in dallas or evn the USA. can i ask, exactly what has ellis been saying to the media? is he clearly talking about money?

well, he is asking for some things to be guarnateed him, which is not the way it works in the nfl. But his big soap box is all about how its not fair....its not fair i have to play in a 3-4, im not suited for that, i didnt sign a contract to be in a 3-4 defense, my production will go down, i wont be marketable in the future, blah, blah...its all about how this change isnt whats best for Greg Ellis.

And the latest comment he made is that he is like a guinea pig, because parcells wants to try him ina new role (not too different from what was done with Ware) Ellis will be rushing the passer from a different stance or position on occassion. And then Ellis goes on to say if the experiment does not work the guinea pig dies, what kind of assinine comparison is that. Comparing a possible drop off in his production to an animal dying from a crazy experiment.

He has already decided that he doesnt think he can handle this new role and has a fatalist, defeatest attitude and is asking to be released or traded to a situation that is more favorable for him.

Also....to Jimmy or the answer who is so in favor of the ellis holdout....Hey wouldnt it be great if all the dallas cowboys players followed Greg's GREAT EXAMPLE and decided to hold out or beg to be traded, Boy how great would that be.

He deserves a role on this football team for being a standup guy and loyal to this organization, especially during some very bad seasons when we flat out sucked. Like The Answer just said in another response....it's not about starting or more money, he wants assurances that he's not going to be sitting on the bench 90% of the season behind younger players.

Why should we hate this 'employee' as you put it for merely wanting to do his job and play some football???

~The Answer

No, he deserves a chance to make this team by doing what is asked of him.

And if he doesn't what to sit behind those younger players, then he needs to get off his butt and start learning what they need him to learn and stop whinning. If not, he has no one to blame but himself.

What is Greg Ellis' problem ?

One of the best coaches in the NFL, one of the greatest talent evaluators in the NFL has said that, "I think you can do this Greg, I think you can grow in this new role and excel !!"

That would be enough for me to go out and work hard and become great at what Parcells believes I can do.

I guess I understand his concern, but he needs to handle it differently.

For those that are siding with him, they obviously don't understand the bind this puts the team in.

They simply cannot bow to his wishes.

It's really too bad, but if they did it for Ellis, you could have anyone and everyone asking for their own "commitment".

Spagnola said it best yesterday:

And Jones knows full-well that if he concedes to Ellis, then, well, here comes Jason Witten, who could be playing on the final year of his contract if no extension is reached, and who wants to risk that? Then here comes Flozell Adams, who realizes he's entering the fourth year of a five-year deal, and probably would like some guarantees in that fifth year if he doesn't fully recover from the knee surgery this year. And here comes Bradie James, who is in the same boat as Witten. And here comes Anthony Henry, worried he never gets the $1 million roster bonus in 2008. And here would have come La'Roi Glover last year, realizing once he was removed from the starting lineup late last season the chances of picking up this year's $1.5 million roster bonus heading into his final season of his five-year deal was remote, as it turned out to be. Same with Larry Allen.

Owners have to hold the line on this matter for not only the good of the team, but the good of the league. Otherwise, there would be anarchy.

Feel pity all you want for Ellis, but if you buy into his song and dance, you really have his and not the team's best interests at heart. Just like he does.

Ellis simply doesn't trust Coach Parcells.

He didn't trust him last year when he said that he could play 3-4 end. Coach Parcells was right, he could.

He still is holding a grudge because he was not starting in three games against the NFL's best running attacks late last year.

Fact is, he more than likely doesn't want to believe him.

I don't see any reason why not being on board with what your head coach is doing is suddenly an admirable trait for some fans.
