Just curious, but how many of you could easily picture Ellis taking the same position as Gene Upshaw held? I just believe he will wind up doing that after he retires.

Agree or disagree?

Oh yea, that's what the NFL needs. Every offseason he'll want to strike because he feels unwanted. But I bet he would be all for a rookie salary cap. I could see him signing the CBA and saying, "Take that Spencer."

He's more suited to be the CWO (Chief Whining Officer) than the executive director.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not rooting for it. But I can see it for the exact reason you've mentioned.

Greg isn't smart enough to be the NFLPA chief. Sorry, Greg, but it's true.

What makes you think that?

I don't think the NFLPA wants a leader who is going to air out his concerns with the media every chance he gets. The players are better served with someone who will keep things low-key instead of making the NFL owners mad by griping.

Talking to the media about problems with the league should be only a last resort for the NFLPA head.

Just from all the interviews I've heard over the years. Very nice guy, great character, good man, but not that smart IMO.

I don't know, he whines a lot but I think he's a smart enough guy.

You can deduce all that from interviews you've heard over the years?:laugh1:

Considering how he sucked at getting a raise for himself, I'd say he won't be in a position where negotiating is key.

:hammer:That's the key for representing the players and their union. Negotiating and the ability to leverage contracts. That's why getting an attorney with a background like DeMaurice Smith made sense.

He got a raise when he had absolutely no leverage whatsoever. I don't know what you're talking about.

I can't see him taking Gene's spot. I like Greg, I know he bugs me at times, but I can't see that being the position for him in the future.

That was my reaction as well.

If I was Jerry, I would have told him "no" and went on with life.

I must be confused. I thought his latest pissing and moaning a year or two ago was met with Jerry just saying tough.

Was that not contract related? Or was that him all butt hurt over Spencer getting drafted?

Now that you mention it, I think I'm gonna agree with ya but still thought Jerry just told him to pound sand regarding something..........

I dunno.

Well, he definately did not get that raise because of his tactics. All he did with those was alienate the fans and the media.

He got the raise out of the goodness of Jerry's heart.

Thats it.
