Don't know if you've all missed this, but DMN writer Matt Engel included statement in his article that Ellis would be cleared today for practice. So hopefully Ellis actually gets on the field and practices even for a little while. Will be interesting to see what he can do & how far back he really is.

Also looking forward to hearing about Colombo's return on Saturday. He'll be rusty and doubt he practices the entire time, but it will still be good to have him back.

I wonder if this is his big announcement, that he can practice again.

It says that he will be cleared to practice today which makes me believe the doctors/trainers are clearing him to practice. What he does I'm sure depends on his frame of mind.

Probably.

I really don't see him saying he is going to sit out or retire. He may complain a great deal but he always goes in and gives it his all.

I forsee him talking to the media again about committment and asks for his release.

When that doesn't happen, I expect he'll shut up and play instead of retiring. Who can say no to $2.5M? Certainly not Greg.

Well maybe this will help take his focus off the dispute he is having with the team.

Is he healthy already? I thought the type of injury he had requires more time to heal. I guess he really worked his butt off to get healthy again. Cool

id prefer if he only practiced lightly....did half a practice and worked slowly back into practice mode.....then when they get back to valley ranch, hit full practice mode.

i want him healthy for the season. he is damn well needed for our defense to be dominant.

a front 7 of Ware, Hatcher/Canty, James, Ferguson, Ayodele, Ratliff, Ellis should be able to kick tale and take names

Hope he is alright. I for one am routing for this guy to get double digit sacks this year.

I'd prefer that since he'll likely be starting that he gets as much time in practice as he can handle. He is, after all, learning a new D.

Of course, Wade likes to coddle and cuddle the vets, so I expect Ellis will do a lot of watching.

Ellis is a vet....he has a plethora of moves. he can now stunt and do other things....i agree he has to learn the defense and so forth...but that stuff can be learned in the last 3 weeks before the 1st game....right now make sure the foot and ankle are ok....also he can sit on the side and take notes as he is watching others be instructed....he can get a mental approach for the first few weeks and then go in and put it together with the physical approach.

He's a vet yes. But as an OLB he's a 2nd year player with only 9 games total of experience.

It seemed to me last year that on the rare occasions when the D moved around, Ellis often looked lost. Now with a D that moves around more, he's going to get good by just watching? Come on.

I agree. I also think it is important to test him physically to see if indeed he can do the job.

But if Flo is working in slowly after a knee scope, I doubt Ellis will jump in and practice like crazy after the achilles. Not because he's being coddled, but because that's only the prudent way to do it coming off such a serious injury.

I think that folks here don't understand just how large a role Ellis is set to play for us this year. I know people are thinking "screw Ellis, we've got Spencer!" As if he's going to magically be Shaun Phillips (the 2006 version). That left outside position is very tough to play and I doubt that many rookies could man the role full-time for an entire season without some very poor outings. We really need Ellis to be able to give at least 35 plays a game out there.

I agree and what scares me the most is if we take it too easy on Ellis and then find out at the start of the season that he can't do it any longer because of the injury. I don't think anyone will know for sure until Ellis is actually going up against O-lineman and putting pressure on that tendon. If we need to look elsewhere to fill his role I would rather do it sooner than later. My hope is he is fit and ready to go but with that injury it is hard to say how he will come back
