I agree and what scares me the most is if we take it too easy on Ellis and then find out at the start of the season that he can't do it any longer because of the injury. I don't think anyone will know for sure until Ellis is actually going up against O-lineman and putting pressure on that tendon. If we need to look elsewhere to fill his role I would rather do it sooner than later. My hope is he is fit and ready to go but with that injury it is hard to say how he will come back

If he can't push it what I expect as the first plan of action would be to move Carpenter back outside and start looking hard for an ILB.

I agree that would make the most sense considering Carpenter finished last season at the outside spot and was starting to show some real talent on the outside.

It brings up a good question. Is Carp inside because he's better there or because James is so bad in passing situations?

Of course, if Carp moves outside then we are back to square one with James playing in passing situations.

Depending on how Junior Glymph does Dallas could always keep Carpenter inside and play Jr on the outside.

Carpenter can stay inside. Spencer is the one that will just have to fill more of the outside role if Ellis can't go. I bet Carpenter will be moved around to get some outside pass rush, but he will stay primarily on the inside.

No doubt Spencer will play but Dallas will also rotate others in there instead of putting it all on a rookie.

Is he healthy already? I thought the type of injury he had requires more time to heal. I guess he really worked his butt off to get healthy again. Cool
No, bursitis isnt that big of a deal. He may of overreacted to the pain the first time he tried to practice

That is the problem he has right now but what we do not know is how the Achilles will react when he starts putting stress on it when facing Lineman. All the rehab in the world is not going to be the same as live action when you’re engaged with a 300 + lineman

I wonder if the turf also played a minor role. The new field turf is more forgiving than the old astroturf, but it is also probably different than natural grass. He gets out there and does a few drills on the turf and it feels funny.

Don't know if you've all missed this, but DMN writer Matt Engel included statement in his article that Ellis would be cleared today for practice. So hopefully Ellis actually gets on the field and practices even for a little while. Will be interesting to see what he can do & how far back he really is.

Also looking forward to hearing about Colombo's return on Saturday. He'll be rusty and doubt he practices the entire time, but it will still be good to have him back.

Welcome back Greg!
You'll be a bit rusty, but that is why god invented training camp.
As part of your regimen:

1. Practice hard but ease into it.
2. Keep your mouf shut. Everyone knows where you stand, so don't appear to be a bigger whiner than you are.
3. Your demands for more money are but a pipe dream. If you can get it, fine, just go about it in a quiet and dignified way. But know that Jerra won't open his wallet for a second year LB who limped off the field last year.
4.Your days as a "leader" are gone. Listen to your new daddy, Ware, and follow his and the coach's instructions.
5. If you think you'd be happier elsewhere, just do and spare us the drama.

Again, welcome back Greg. Now the team can assess how you walk the walk instead of how you talk the talk.

I see Ellis in a role somewhat similar but not identical to Jeffcoat later in his career (since Jeffcoat was DE and Ellis is now LB). Let him come in on passing downs and just pin his ears back and bring some heat.
