Emmitt Smith believes Cowboys should bring Zeke back if possible

Likely an unpopular opinion, BUT, at the right price I would sign him for 1 year (not much more than Vet min money, maybe with TD and rep incentives/bonuses) - have Zeke add a few pounds of muscle and be purely a short yardage, goal-line, and rare-situation back - almost like a FB. Say what you want but Zeke is excellent in pass protection and is pretty decent at short yardage/goal-line runs, and if you are actually well ahead in a game, he can be the garbage time, clock-eating back to take those extra bumps and bruising reps away from tiny Vaughn and injury recovering Pollard. I don't see a 1 year Zeke signing as holding back any developing RB's really and if he truly doesn't cut it in camp versus the depth guys, then cut him..... - He IS good in locker room (albeit not a real rah rah elevating leader - just a positive type guy - and our QB loves him....)....

What Emmitt is saying is what I’ve been saying. No guarantees Pollard returns to form and if he does he’s not the short yardage back Zeke is. We lost a big game against Philly a few years ago that kept us out of the playoffs because Pollard couldn’t pick up a yard on third down and ended up taking a loss.

A week and a 1/2 ago I would have been 100% against this…but that’s when I assumed that it was common sense the Cowboys would draft a viable 2nd RB. Going into the season with Jones/Vaughn/Davis as our only backups to Pollard would be almost as egregious as thinking our WR’s behind Lamb would be ok last year. I don’t think Zeke has much left, but if he can be kept fresh and healthy with 8-10 touches a game with some pass pro responsibilities he should be better than what we currently have behind Pollard.

But hopefully a decent RB gets cut in camp and the front office has the sense to make a move

Zeke isn’t playing for vet minimum $.

The reason Zeke is gone is because Dallas didn’t want to pay elite $$$ to an aging RB.

They are still paying for him. He counts against the cap. They are just using cap magic to spread out the cost.

Until JJ says it’s over then it’s possible. He said it wasn’t over yet. He had a standing offer with him if he wants to play for Cowboys. Likely low salary with incentive based money. If healthy he can still punch it in and get short yards. His problem is he needs 10 carrys to get warmed up. He is getting dinged up. I will say the last 2 years he was injured by the type of tackles that broke Pollard and Daks legs.

The problem is Zeke has nothing left. So no reason to bring him back.

CowboysZone LOYAL Fan

I tend to stay out of the Emmitt debate.

Did notice that The Fan had Brian Baldinger on yesterday and he said the same thing. Said he was way more valuable than the average fan realizes.

fwiw, I'm generally in the camp that thinks you can find RB depth. Not talking stars, but depth.

If McCarthy had Zeke earlier in his career, he would have shown how Zeke is supposed to be used. Zeke was wasted playing under Kellen Moore's stupid ***.

Zeke has flat tires. No one wants him is very telling.
