I'm hoping we have some trading card expert here. And if this needs moved please do so, I didn't know which forum is appropriate and I did want to reach the most people possible.

I have found the card value but not the manufacturer mount version. This is a mounted Upper Deck card that is (mostly) sealed except a slight tear. I wondered if it was worth anything. What do you think? All sarcasm is welcome!

For the record...mods/admin...I am NOT looking to "market" this card. Just looking for information...there's is NONE on the internet that I can find. But thank you for moving it anyway.

Is the rear in the card, or whatever is sealing it?

It's probably not worth much. Maybe a little if it's autographed. I have a few plaques like that of Emmitt, Troy, Michael, and a group one of much of the team. I don't think I payed more than $75 for any of them, 30 years ago.

It’s honestly not worth much. I used trade/collect cards when I was younger. I can tell the card is off center and slightly rotated. You also mentioned a tear, which I don’t see due to the picture quality, but would torpedo the card’s value unless we’re talking Honus Wagner or something.

I have some cards I was wondering about too. I found that there is now a rating system, and a company that rates cards for money. That rating is apparently required to establish any real value in a trading card. Seems like a scam to me.

But I think most cards from the 1990s are worth very little today because so many of them were produced. I have a couple of dozen Barry Sanders rookie cards. And 50,000 other cards and I have no idea what to do with them.

That's the problem with most sports cards over the last 30-40 years.

Once it shifted from fun collecting to would-be investment collecting, the sports card producing companies started producing way too many cards which let people mass-buy them by the boxes and that flooded the market and diluted the value of all cards, even the rarest of them.

That's 100% what it is.

My dad served in Desert Shield and many companies would send the troops crates full of free product including baseball and football cards. My dad sent me back boxes and boxes of Pro Set football cards and I had more Emmitt Smith rookie cards than I knew what to do with. Today, they're absolutely worthless.

This is the new thing. Get it PSA graded and if it comes up Mint Condition, you may get something for it. Unfortunately I think it cost a bit of money to get it PSA graded.

Pokemon is where it's at lol. Nah but seriously I have a gem mint Emmitt Florida Gator card and I actually wonder what it's worth. I'd never sell it though.

I tried to get back into card collecting last year….and to my surprise some of the highest priced stuff in the shop was Pokémon cards lol.

Yeah, couple things...the bar for PSA grade 10 or "mint" cards is pretty hard. Getting a card PSA graded can cost anywhere from $25-$350 depending on the turnaround and level of service. Also, I would be wary of listing prices on Amazon or eBay. The only data that matters is the sold listings.

That card you linked to is exactly the one I was talking about. Without exaggeration, I had literally hundreds of those Emmitt rookie cards.

Don’t know about football but the baseball Upper Deck market crashed hard. Dug out some old cards not long ago I had in storage and was very disappointed to find most of the rookie cards were worthless.

Oversaturation of the market was a problem. Even with that said Pro Set football cards were rarely worth anything. The Emmit rookie card to get is from the score supplemental set. Oddly enough Michael Irvins rookie card from pro set was the exception for pro set as it is a decent rookie card but the tops one is better imo.

I do not have that one but from a previous score set I do have Aikman and Deion Sanders rookie cards.

I think the PSA thing is a bit of a scam. Not that they do not legitimately grade the cards but the entire premise that cards need to be graded is only because there are so many cards out there. They found a way to make card more scarce by limiting the number that are GEM Mint.

If they aren't worth anything, box or bag them up in bundles of 200 (for example) and go around town and hand them out to kids in the hospital. Or box them up (I do about 2000 per box) and sell them on FB marketplace or eBay for $25.

I dumped all my cards 25 years ago when the market was nothing but crap. Best guess is somewhere around 750,000 cards. Football, basketball and baseball cards got hot during Covid and I was one of those guys who bought everything at the store and resold online. I made a killing.

Since then everything has gone back to crap only worse, the price has jumped significantly. I'll buy something for my son every now and then and instantly regret it when he rips it open. Just last week I bough a Optic hanger box for $26 plus tax. The best card was worth maybe $4-5 and the rest were just nickel and dime cards and a couple of $1 cards.

It's not a bad idea, but in the back of my mind I know these cards are mostly worth nothing. I should probably just throw them in the recycling bin.
