End of an Era - What is your memory?

Wasn't Emmitt's big half against the Vikes on Monday night? Where he had something like 150 yards and two TDs, but broke his finger on his last TD run?
Yes, that was going to be my favorite memory. He said after the game that during the pregame ritual, he imagined being cloaked in Walter's jersey (who had died shortly before) and he felt a warm glow during the game. Too bad for the finger, he was surely on pace to break the single game rushing record.

Here's a more recent one: the 21-20 victory over the Eagles just this year. I was at that game and it's one I'll never forget.

Just one more, the 1997 win over the Eagles in Texas Stadium because of the fumbled Tommy Hutton snap. I was at that game also, amazing.

Emmitt vs Barry back in '94(or '95). Two of the all-time best in their primes going at it. unfortunately Barry and the Lions came out on top but it was still fun to watch.

I remember this one well, it was actually 1994 and I believe it was Week 3. This game seemed to drag on forever though, and it was one of those classic cases where we kept letting a team hang around with our own dumb mistakes.

I'll never forget that the game ended so late and I was so wound up from it I wasn't able to fall asleep until 5 in the morning.

1. Howards halftime highlights were awesome. At the time, it was the only visual means of seeing the teams outside of the locals. Every Tuesday after school, we would always toss the ball around and re-enact those highlights.
2. Sept. 7, 1992 vs the limpskins- Beating the defending champs on opening night was a good measuring stick that our pending dominance had arrived.
3. During the MNF pregame of the 90's Cowboys glory years, our helmet would always come out and crash into the opponents and shatter theirs and ours would remain intact. Then they would have mini interviews with our guys only. It was great going to work the next day and hear (mostly egirl fans) say, "did you see that sh**, it's like they're the only team playing.

Who cares about Brent, Jimmy and Irv, Phyllis George was the star of that show.

November 8, 1999, the first Monday Night game after Payton's death. You're right EE, 150 yards in the 1st half alone, and he did get his hand caught on the Vikings player's facemask on the way to the end zone on the 2nd TD. We ended up losing too.

If I'm not mistaken, that was an ESPN Sunday Night game.

No, it was a MNF game. We beat the Vikings on Sunday Night in 1995 when Smith scored a TD in overtime.

...few last broadcasts as he knew it was coming to an end he started up on national TV about the state of sports journalism and the prevalence of "jockocracy". LOL!

Gifford had no idea of what to say and the booth was quiet. It was a poignant moment of sour grapes.

No one ever evoked such a strong desire to throw bricks at the TV like Howard. You either liked him or hated him. There was no fence sitting on the topic of this guy.

Other MNF memories.

- September 1991 - Cowboys showcase Emmitt. Emmitt Smith runs around, over and through the Skins and even shakes off the speedy Darrell Green. Unfortunately, Smith gets sick at halftime and the Cowboys end up losing 33-31.

- 1997 (I think) - the Cowboys game against Philadelphia. Philly was handing it to us and all of a sudden we come back and win the game with a field goal at the end. It was a game we shouldn't have won (like this year's contest) but we did.

Jayne Kennedy couldn't hold Phyllis George's bra.

... a different impression of Ms. Kennedy - one that was back up by a centerfold spread in a certain men's magazine that sports a "bunny" logo.

There was alot about Ms. Kennedy to admire and some things that would make me hesistate stop and consider the uselessness of comparing two attractive women.

Just saw some clips of ABC's Monday night football on ESPN News.
Showed Howard with the Cigar.
Showed Randall Cunningham staying on his feet and throwing the TD pass.

What is your greatest memory of ABC Monday Night football?
I would say Howard's Half Time highlights.

I always missed Dandy Don singing "turn out the lights"!

-IBM presents..."You Make the Call" - My dad and I would always look forward to this during MNF games.

-I miss the halftime highlights. I really thought when Al said that they're bringing back the highlights, that they would...bring back the highlights, not some cheesy Tim "Let's hope the female audience watches during halftime because that means more ratings and possibly more sponsors" McGraw.

-The original MNF theme. Hey, I could even deal with Hank but now it's totally commercialized...and it's just bad.

-Unforgettable moment - Watching Emmitt lay motionless after carrying out that playaction fake vs. Chicago in 96.

-Favorite Cowboys moment - vs. Washington in 92 or 93. Haley had 2-3 sacks, Isaic Holt had a blocked punt, Emmitt, Troy and Michael showed the world who they'd be gunning for the next 5 years.

-Other notables - Billy Cundiff's monster night against the NYG, Roy heading for the endzone to beat the Eagles, ABC showing Eugene Lockhart and others at a sports bar as they watch the outcome of the Rams/Saints game in '90 to see if the Boys would be in the playoffs, etc.

-Great moments not involving the Cowboys:

--Bucs/Rams in 2000, I believe. What a shootout! Shaun King makes an unbelievable play to Warrick Dunn on 4th and 17. The Bucs win. One of the best games I've seen.

--Jerry Rice breaking the TD record.

--Joe Montana leading the Chiefs to victory

1) Dorsett's run in 1982 with only ten men on offense
2) Danny White leading the comeback vs. Washington in 1983
3) Primetime in 1998 vs New York
4) Ike Holt's blocked punt in 1992
5) Montana beating Elway in Denver
6) Randall's TD with Banks bouncing off him
7) Jeffcoat's touchdown vs New Orleans in 1984
8) Oakland coming back to beat Pittsburgh in 1980 signaling end of the Steel Curtain.
9) Emmitt's 75 yarder vs. Washington in a loss in 1991
10 Julius' huge game vs. Seattle in 2004
11) Zuriel Smith watching that ball bounce out of bounds in 2003.
12) That stupid botched snap that won the game vs. Philly in 1997
13) Winning in 2000 when Washington was supposed to be the best team Napoleon could assemble
