3 times in 5 games, the defense has folded on the last drive of the game and given up a TD. What is the deal?

With no leaders on D i seriously think they play passively not wanting to be the goat who loses the game. There is no confidence. we need to be up by 10 points for them to play relaxed. They tense up and think to much instead of reacting.

Wade's Mr. Fix It Defense needs fixed....that's the problem.

Secondary is still an issue. No playmakers. Just a big play once in a while.

How many times do we as fans sit back and HOPE someone makes a play. Ware hopefully with a few sacks can become that like last year.
But teams like the Steelers, Ravens. The fans know that their defense WILL make a play. We just HOPE ours does.
Will those team give up plays, yes, but they make more than give up. We are the opposite.

Maybe they can FIX IT over the bye week.

it all comes down to talent.

4 out of 5 games this season we've given up points either right before the half or at the end of the game. the only game we didn't give up points in those situations was against Tampa because they missed a fg right before the half.

I'm not so sure it's a talent issue. I think we play soft zones and let teams drive down the field because we're too conservative. We're too concerned about giving up the big play. I have no problem with a prevent defense if you're up by 3 scores and there's 5 minutes to go (extreme, but you get my point). I also don't think we're getting enough defensive players involved thoroughout the game, so all of our starters are gassed at the end. Where has Victor Butler been since the Carolina game? We do have more than 11 defensive players on the roster.

Wade lets up. Drives me nuts.

This is it in a nut shell. I wish one of the reporters would ask him at a press conference, "Coach, how many times do you have to watch your defense give up a long scoring drive at the end of the game before it dawns on you that the situation calls for putting EXTRA pressure on the opposing QB (especially when you still have them at their own end of the field) and playing tight coverages; instead of going as soft as that huge tummy of yours"?

Okay, he/she could leave out the tummy part, but I wish the rest of the question would be asked.

I think if you would have asked the entire roster of the Chiefs if they would rather play the same defense that had controlled them the whole game or the "prevent" defense, they would have voted unanimously for "prevent".

3rd and 26 and we get an unecessary roughness - right?

We had them and it was a good defensive stand.

It is the penalties and simple mistakes that are killing this team.

It was hard fought win though so I am not going to complain.

that's what's annoying. It's not like these guys are out on an island b/c we're bringing the house...

That was the previous possession, when we blocked the field goal.

On their touchdown drive, Scandrick allowed a 25-yard catch on third-and-14, and Jenkins allowed the 16-yard TD catch on fourth-and-7.

Ok. I made a thread last week about our defense. Our defense is 0 for 3 on drives in the last possession of the opposing team that can either tie or win the game this season. I'm not counting today's OT. That worries me. Yes, they played real well against Denver and KC but when it mattered the most at the end, they let up a long drive that won or tied the game. Same as in NY.

This defense just does not make the plays when it matters the most on these drives. Newman had a sure pick fall out of his hands today.

Now yes, they did step up in OT but I'm getting sick of seeing these long drives at the end of games by teams and we can not get them off the field to save our lives.

I blame Wade and his soft scheme he uses when we have leads. He has a long history of having his defenses crumple in final minutes.

The end of the game comes down being mentally tuff and well conditioned. I dont think we are either. That is where Coach Jones and Phillips fails us.

Butler etc.. need to see a few snaps here and there to help keep Ware and Spencer fresh.

It frustrates me that Wade and Garrett are unwilling to find small roles for some of our younger players.

Oddly enough talking about the defense at the end of the game when they stopped them twice in OT at the end of the game, in order to win the game.

Now that does not take away from the end of regulation or the previous games, but let's not over look stopping them twice in OT either.
