I was fortunate. My wife's mother had a necklace with a diamond in it (I believe it was bought in South Africa) which my wife wanted for her ring. So ... I paid nothing for the diamond and my wife got exactly what she wanted.

You buy the ring for thousands of dollars, then you add to your debt by paying for a wedding. Nice way to start out your partnership... already behind the eight-ball, owing money.

My wife wanted something simple and basic. Told her she would regret it. Told her we should do something nice for her parents. It's a special day for them too. Especially her mom.

You can get a really nice ring and have a really nice wedding without blowing yourselves up financially.

I only planned on doing it once. It was going to be "an event"... And it was!

If you cheap it out... You really can't do it over..... Unless.... You remarry lol

UPDATE:

SHE SAID YES!

I'm the happiest guy in the world right now. Thanks to all who gave sound advice!

Cheers!

You do what you guys feel is best. Make it memorable! That's all. No, not the all we need is each other memorable. That is a given.

Why would someone regret simple and basic? The opposite is much more likely to be true IMO.

Hey folks. I have a lovely lady and I need to put a ring on it but I don't know much about them. Well. Not much more than I can research online.

So I'm looking for some unbiased opinions or advice on finding a good ring.

Question 1: Where is the best place to find good deals on engagement settings and center stones in DFW?

Question 2: is there a stigma for purchasing the engagement setting online (without the stone)?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know much about where to get a ring, but here is the lyrics to the wedding song.

Dumb...dumb, dumb, dumb.

Dumb...dumb, dumb, dumb.

Dumb...dumb, dumb, dumb...dumb, dumb, dumb...dumb, dumb, dumb.

Good luck on your marriage. :D

Be careful about the band because if it is gold it can get up there. When I bought my wife's engagement ring I had no idea about the PL that was on the inside. I thought the diamonds were the one that made the ring expensive. That is true but if you have a band that has those initials in it it can get expensive. I was informed by the jeweler that we bought our wedding bands from that the PL stands for plum gold which means it is within two tenths of carat gold weight. He explained that when most gold rings say they are 14 carat they are really only 12 carat. My wife's engagement ring was 13.8 carat. The band itself almost cost as the diamonds that were in the ring. Any way good luck and definitely find out what type of stone she wants.
