Our fan base will be suffering the same way if we come up short in Washington next Sunday. The way we’ve struggled on the road that game is far from a slam dunk, especially if the weather is a factor. Jerry used the weather as one of the excuses for our embarrassing performance against Buffalo. We’re not playing much better than Philly right now. We’re struggling to run the ball and Dak is under constant pressure. If we lose CeeDee we’re screwed and our defense is struggling to hold a lead with games on the line.
Washington, at the moment would have the #2 overall pick, it will come down to who wins or loses the last week. While players and coaches play to win the game, the ownership/FO may have different ideas and may insist who sits/starts for this game to preserve that pick. While they would love to beat the Cowboys, would it be worth dropping in draft order? Big difference between the #2 pick versus #5/6, depending on the last week's results

I'd say keep an eye on practice/injury reports this week to see how much they really want to win. McLaurin nicks himself shaving? Better sit him, don't wanna take a chance with an injury like that. :muttley:

I’ll be surprised if they lay down for a higher draft pick. No coach or owner is going to instruct their team to lay down. It’s a rivalry game and they love beating the Cowboys. They would love to ruin our chance at the NFC East title.

As someone living in the DMV, I'd like to bring up a few points...

(1) Washington is NOT Buffalo, not even close.

(2) They WANT that #2 overall pick; why screw that up now with a meaningless win (for them) over Dallas?

(3) We definitely could looking at snow here in a DC area next Saturday night into Sunday. That's something to keep an eye on. But the bottom line... if we can't beat these guys with the division on the line, how 'worthy' are we of the 2nd seed anyway?

And by the way, not beating Washington with the division on the line, considering how bad they are this year, is a fireable offense if you're Mike McCarthy..

I think most around the NFL have less trust in the Cowboys than any team because every good team they’ve had has come up short the past 28 years. Every time it “appears” they have a great team they fall short. They pull everyone in making fans and the league believe this year is different only to once again fall short. We’ll see if this season turns out any different. I won’t believe it will until I see it.
I have my doubts, but I also have hope. hoping that this is not year 29 similar to past 28.....

(If the mod who edited the header and the original post would like to offer me some insight into how I can, in the future, satisfy guidelines since it appears I offended some unknown rule... would be much appreciated. It's an evolving thing, figuring out how to avoid requiring mods' attention. All due respect, I'm just not used to such intense scrutiny on an internet board.)

Riviera is about to get canned, so who knows what the new owner wants,

He’s certainly not going to instruct players to not give it their all to get a higher draft pick. Some of those players are trying to stick around for next year or put up some good tape for other teams. They have pride and are trying to keep their careers going. You can bet Washington’s new owner group will be clearing out coaches and more players.

They might be rotting from within, imploding etc. But chances are that they (Eagles) will most likely get further than us in the playoffs

No, but he can sit key players. Teams do that all the time.

That might happen but players have goals and that might not sit well with some which could leave them disgruntled.

Nobody with an injury should play. Nobody they want to release or trade should play. What's the point of risking them?

And if that leaves Howell exposed, they might not play him either.

It's kind of like opt outs in bowl games.

I never said play someone injured. You said they might sit key players with no mention of injuries. If they sit healthy key players to throw the game, I doubt that would sit well with them or the fans who are paying good money to attend.

Well, the 49ers and Ravens will. You think Lamar is playing this week? McCaffrey and Deebo?

For Washington, they could end up paying an injury settlement to a veteran who is a few agent or they intend to release.

Players won't care if there is nothing to play for.

It'll be hit and miss.

That’s a totally different situation. Teams that have clinched a playoff spot routinely sit starters in season finale to protect them injury. Washington is out of the playoffs and there’s no reason for them to sit healthy players.

The giants did last week. It was obvious the coaches weren't trying to win.

The WFT have a chance to draft a generational QB, and for a team that hasn't had a resemblance of a QB for what seems like decades this is a big deal to not blow it...only issue is Titanic Ron won't leave without causing more turmoil and guarantee that he would love to part ways with a big middle finger saying "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah". Should have kept me, now look what you made do...look what you made me do. (Brittany reference for those who well...you know)

Their coaches are on the hot seat. That was a one point game. You don’t make a game that close if you’re looking to lose.
