Enough with Stanback already

I watched Stanback play in Seattle for the UW his whole career and he was a decent QB with a lot of athletic ability. He played a little WR but was nothing special. Many posters are speaking of Stanback as a long term answer at WR and maybe he will be good someday but he is green, green, green and has done zero on the professional level. He hasn't even shown anything in practices or exhibition games and many of you keep talking about him as the answer?

Dallas has to get a young stud at WR because of the aging WR corp and Crayton certainly looks like a mediocre #2 and a decent #3 at best.

My hope is Berrian in Free agency or Roy Williams in a trade. A rookie may contribute this year (Bowe would have been great) but WR's usually take a couple of years to blossom.

Berrian sucks. I think the Roy Williams trade is most likely. Stanback is a project. If he works out, great, if not, no big deal. No one is "counting on him."

Um, I'm not sure who you're directing this thread to, as most of the people whom have posted on this topic have agreed that we need to either draft a young guy or go after one via FA. I'd love a Fitzgerald or Roy Williams, but if not I'm pretty sure the Cowboys' staff kinda knows that they have to address the issue during the draft.

BTW, Berrian sucks.

I don't think anyone has stated that they'd pass on a chance to get RW because of Stanback. If they had, I'd suggest they be banned.

That said, there's no correlation between that and what the team thinks Stanback can do in the future. We need someone now, but IMO Stanback can be an NFL WR.

I bet you were one of those guys that said Romo will never be the option, He's GREEN GREEN GREEN.

Well guess what players develop and some raw players can become stars. Look at Romo.

Stanback has "potential" I think that's what Eveybody that knows are excited about. Not about what He's acconplished in college.

Reading is fundamental.

#1 no one has said ANYTHING about him being the answer long term. In fact if you paid any attention, at all, on these forums you might have noticed the 10 million threads begging for Dallas to get Roy Williams from Detroit or Chad Johnson from Cincy. There is even plenty of outcry for Dallas to sign Moss. Not exactly glowing endorsements that anyone thinks Stanback is the future.

That said...you're comments about how he showed nothing? Apparently you don't read much about the coaches comments on him, or listen to anything, cause the coaches are VERY high on him and have said he's learning the position very quickly. He's made strides in practice and showed some glimpses in Preseason last year (Coming in during the Denver game and getting a couple catches including a nice TD reception).

The guy is very green, without a doubt. I dont think he's ever going to be a #1 option for us but I could see him eventually be a really solid #2 or #3.

Wade Phillips himself even said that he was getting harder to cover. So you're right.

To the thread starter: As many on here have stated, no one is "counting" on Stanback.

In fact, any contribution from him would be a huge bonus. If he becomes the player Ireland envisioned, then I'll be very suprised....happy....but surprised.

Phillips has said on a couple of occasions that Stanback is very difficult to cover (with much emphasis placed on the "very"). I assume the reasons why he is not on the field yet have more to do with mental and technical aspects of the position than his physical ability to play the position. For a smart guy, the mental and technical issues should be just a matter of time, coaching, and practice.

stanback is a project and always was figured to show nothing last year. Its this camp where the coaches will be looking at him hard. The hope is that in a year or two he can be something like TO light. Which would be pretty good.

I knew that with enough posts you would one day not talk "crazy"

But I agree that last year was supposed to be a learning one for stanback -- on the bench.
This coming camp will show whether he is worth keeping or is a bust. I thought that Stanback was an unusual choice last year, but with the dearth of depth behind Romo, at the time it made sense.
But in hindsight I think Jerra just had a man crush on his physique and leaned on Wade and Ireland enough to draft him.
But if Stanback shows just average talent, yes, enough is enough. Move on, by all means.

Who has said he is a long term answer? We simply don't know yet.

I believe everyone knows how green he is.

We didn't expect much last year for a reason- he was learning a new position and was hurt.

Keep in mind we drafted him to be more than a WR.

Not sure why you are pushing the panic button on Stanback in the middle of February.

Yes we need to add a stud WR to our roster. Regardless of how anyone feels about Stanback.

Berrian doesn't suck

No, he doesn't, but he's not a #1 receiver. He's a good #2.

I'm assuming that we're talking about trading picks and/or players (or signing big-name FA's) for a true #1 in all of these threads, correct? Trading for a #2 would suck.

Yeah! Screw it! We don't need no stinkin wide receivers anyway!

Lets get rid of our mid round WR from last years draft that we don't like, and replace him with another one from this years' draft!

JJ and WP have spoke glowingly about Stanback on numerous occasions. They said he progressed well last year and are looking for to him making a move this season. I think he's gonna be a good one. He's strong, fast, and aggressive. We all may be very suprised at what he does this season and I'm looking forward to watching him..
