what was the point of this thread? Witten is one of the top 5 TE's of all time in my opinion, so a 2nd round pick wont be replacing him? Thats like saying Ryan Mallet will never replace Tom Brady.

the Escobar pick was so we can start running more 2 TE sets which is the way the league is going, a formation i love personally and if Escobar develops into a solid TE it will help our offense immensely.

Escobar wont be one of the greatest TEs of all time, what a wasted pick. I mean come on, who the heck is going to live up to Witten?

You must be using another book because those are not the 40 times I have in my Draft Reports.

Escobar was drafted to do what knucklehead Marty B couldn't do be a receiving threat in a 2 TE package with Witten. If he's not productive in the passing game he'll end up another wasted #2 pick like Fasano and Bennett. Fasano was drafted to block for Bledslow and once he was benched for Romo that made Fasano expendable.

Marty B was drafted for the same reason the Cowboys just drafted Escobar but he was a lazy idiot who wasn't even as good a receiver as Fasano and wasn't the athletic freak he was made out to be.

Not very likely Escobar will produce a lot catches with Witten on the field so he's going to have to put up some TD's in the redzone. If he can score 7-8 TD's in 2013 he'll be worth the pick but he wasn't drafted to block so it's a must he produces in the passing game.

Escobar was drafted to shore up the Hispanic vote and reaffirm the Cowboys as Mexico's team....ha ha j/k
I was really pushing for us to get TE Fleener last year as I wanted another pass catcher and although I loved the Hanna pick last year, hoping that he'd develop into a Hernandez or Gronk is a bit of a stretch. I still think that Hanna will contribute but Escobar is clearly a cut above Hanna and I think he has bigtime potential. I would've loved a OL/DL pick in rd 2 but I'm VERY pleased we that we acquired Escobar, great player IMO.

Jerry's post draft comments about Escobar were exactly like his comments about Marty B after he drafted him. Jerry licked and smacked his lips like he just ate some greasy chicken talking about how athletically gifted Escobar is and that he'll be like having a second starter on the field with Witten. He had the same exact plan for Marty B.

Jerry said things didn't workout with Marty B and didn't go into specifics as to why but it was because Marty B was a lazy idiot who seemed more interested in being a rapper than a football player. Rapping, basketball, tweeting, making stupid comments and posting silly YouTube video's seemed to be his passion. Hopefully Escobar has his head screwed on right, loves football and has the desire to be a good football player.

Witten has taken a physical battering over the past 2 seasons. Last season he looked very worn out at seasons end. A human body can only take so much punishment. Witten will be out of the league within a year or two unless the Cowboys take some pressure off him and limit his punishment. Escobar taking snaps will lengthen Witten's career. Or if Witten's body just gives up - which is not unlikely - we have a replacement.

I agree with you that Witten's "window is closing." But I don't see Escobar having the toolset to be a complete tight end, nor can I see him being as good in the passing game.

We will be right back in the market within 18 months and will have to spend another premium pick...because we won't be looking for a complimentary TE but for the #1 tight end.

We spent a premium pick and walked away without a premium player.

Some people wake up every am with a glass half full mentality...I thank the Lord daily that I am not one of them.

From everything that I have read Escobar is one of the top 3 TE's in this draft and possibly the best of the 3. Just from his highlight reel he looks plenty fast to me and has enough wiggle to his game. Miles, Dez, Jason and this kid will all be on the field at the same time...I would imagine he wont have a hard time finding a hole in the coverage. I think Romo will like this kid a lot.

A second round pick is a premium selection...We just picked Escobar earlier than the majority of tight ends in the league, including:
Witten, drafted in round 3
Gronkowski, drafted at the end of round 2
Hernandez...round 4

I guess I'll have to repeat myself AGAIN:
I'm not talking about Escobar's ability to repeat a HOF career. Of course not. I'm talking about Escobar's ability to take over as #1 tight end as Witten moves into the sunset of his career.

I'm also highlighting Jerry's unparalleled ability to draft a guy that belongs a round or two later.

I wake up to the glass...as it is. Jerry keeps draining our glasses.

In my mind this was a Red pick all the way, in fact I think Red wanted Eifert in rnd 1. Escobar is going to be a very nice weapon for us especially in the redzone something that we have been lacking in from our TE's for quite some time. As one of the top 3 TE's rated in this draft Escobar would not have lasted much longer had we not drafted him with our 2nd as he was truly The Last of the Mohicans.

An i wrong but does Escobar remind anyone of Jimmy Graham of New Orleans..

Jimmy Graham? 6'7... 4.53 speed.

Graham has wide receiver speed. Escobar is slow for a tight end.
