Well, if Spillman is cut after the SF game, AND Edwards cut after the Tenn game, AND Sam cut after the STL game, then you just may be on to something. Until then, I am skeptical and see no correlation other than coincidence.

Last season, we added LB Kyle Bosworth off waivers from the New York Giants the week before the season opener. That, and adding Brian Waters of Chiefs fame (even though he doesn't count as he came via the Patriots) gave me the impression we make a habit of picking up these cast-offs from early-season opponents.
Who knows, really. But it does make some sense if you can find a player that also fits an open need.

I don't remember the exact wording but basically Mickey asked what can be learned from a former player that you can't learn from watching film. IIRC, it was when they were talking about Spillman from SF.

I think that is way over analyzed. If anyone thinks a team can learn more about an opponent from a former player than they can from careful film study they are in the wrong business.

True. But this is fun while we wait for the first REAL game, Dallas vs. Sam Francisco.
