Anthony Hitchens earns raise of more than $1 million

FRISCO, Texas -- As the Dallas Cowboys put together their salary-cap allocations for 2017, they have to factor in a raise of more than $1 million for linebacker Anthony Hitchens.

Because he played in at least 35 percent of the snaps in two of his first three seasons, Hitchens qualified for the "proven performance escalator," in his contract that takes his base salary from $690,000 to $1.84 million in 2017.

I still don't see him as more than a backup. Wilson is a better SLB with higher upside, and Smith and Lee are Smith and Lee. He benefited from a lot of injuries, like RoMac last year and Durant this year.

I could see him starting in the right scheme, including a 43 Tampa 2 which I'm not a huge fan of. Tough, average size...the guy is just always around the ball or making plays. Count me as an Anthony Hitchens supporter. Go 59!

I never really heard anyone talk about it this year, and it could have been just me thinking it and then confirmation bias, but hitch seemed to really play with an attitude and edge this year.

Remember back when we were sure he was "slop" and he hadn't even played a down of professional football? Good times.

remember when fans were saying how great he was going to be and how we had a linebacker for years to come. Those were the hours. Than he played, and now we know he went from great, all the way to "well hopefully he wont be a back up player"

Isn't that what Marinelli generally runs?

Nope. Don't remember that at all, actually. Pretty much people said "let's wait and see." There was that LB out of Cal (?) many of us wanted instead in the fourth.

Nope. Sure there were some but many thought just the opposite. He had no business being drafted and would never be a decent NFL player. Others took a wait and see approach as you should with almost any new draft pick. No one expected him to become some great NFL linebacker just hoping he would be a decent player.
