Hitchens is, at the very least, a capable utility guy who can fill in at any spot reasonably well.

Whether he ultimately ends up as a starter or a backup is fairly irrelevant. He's good enough.

remember when fans were saying how great he was going to be and how we had a linebacker for years to come. Those were the hours. Than he played, and now we know he went from great, all the way to "well hopefully he wont be a back up player"

I remember when he was drafted and people were like "who the hell is he"? "Dumb pick" I like him , he works his butt off and he's proved me wrong

And for this former college linebacker, the linebacker group is getting a lot stronger. With the addition of Smith, both run and pass defense should improve significantly as well...no non-obligatory nanny too too's needed.:)

He was a bad pick. He's a bum who will have to be benched permanently if you ever want a quality defense.

Oh, I see...one lives for the off season, where nothing but negative view is considered adequate.

Alright, I'll play on your post here...prove he/s a bum...

Marinelli doesn't run a 43 Tampa2 scheme at all actually.
I'm curious...I remember us with 3 down lineman and two backers, does he just adapt? Because I thought Tampa 2 was his background at least, not trying to sound like a jerk, believe me. I just want to learn and I only played this game one season in HS. I don't know as much as others. They just said "get the qb" that was my coach, God Bless him.

The Tampa 2 was Kiffin. Marinelli used it in the past but he seems to rely on his assistants to handle coverage. Last year it was Eberflus the year before it was Henderson and his man robber scheme.

Eberflus seems to go the multiple looks route like Ryan did. We ran man under, cover 1, 2, and 3. Several different fronts and coverage squads. They also seem more coordinated than before despite the increase in complexity. We've probably played cover 3 the most under Rod.

Thanks. That made a lot of sense and thinking about it in hindsight, I should have caught that, appreciate the help.

I can't remember a single play Hitchens made all year.

I can but he was up and down; he ws driving me mad missing his run fits early in the year. Eminently replaceable as a starter. As a starter he isn't bad if he is the worst player on your defense but he would be better serving as a depth guy.

I think Hitchens and Wilson have plateaued as rotational guys

They are good depth but not full time, 3 down players

JSmith and SLee will shine next year in comparison

Anthony Hitchens earns raise of more than $1 million

FRISCO, Texas -- As the Dallas Cowboys put together their salary-cap allocations for 2017, they have to factor in a raise of more than $1 million for linebacker Anthony Hitchens.

Because he played in at least 35 percent of the snaps in two of his first three seasons, Hitchens qualified for the "proven performance escalator," in his contract that takes his base salary from $690,000 to $1.84 million in 2017.

Not really. Exactly when was that?
