The dude got it easy by having a felony cleared off his record previously after breaking into a kid's dorm room and stealing his laptop. And then his girlfriend "falls down" while blowing a .00, and he threatens a female hotel employee using his size as intimidation.

He's got obvious talent but he also has sociopathic tendencies. I think it's much less about "turning his life around" than it is about him being able to control his own stupidity, if he even sees it as an issue.

My intuition tells me he's only playing nice because the draft is approaching and he knows if he wants any money in his pocket he's gotta do well now. But, I don't really have much confidence he'll be able to get out of his own way once he's comfortable and making a pretty decent paycheck.

He's a super talent for a 5th rounder, but you gotta draw the line in the sand somewhere. Guess it just depends on who you can put on your team and still have a healthy conscience.
The Cowboys hired a company to help them with the mental makeup evaluations at the request of Garrett a few years ago. They have expertise in evaluating athletes to see if they are likely to have problems in the future. Their "guess" will be much better than ours.

Yeah... whatever Dallas is doing to find good players, it is working. Like I mentioned earlier, if Dallas decides to take the guy late, I will trust their psych evaluation of the guy and let him has a clean slate going forward.

Too bad public opinion and the media won't follow suit.

Wouldn't want to miss out on the Caleb McSurdy's of the world by drafting players with talent. McSurdy is probably helping an old lady across ths street at this very minute.

Just to play devil's advocate, we do need a RB, why not sign Ray Rice?

Agreed on Dallas having much more extensive resources to finding out the future mental makeup of a player. It's just my opinion that I don't want the guy.

Public opinion will obviously differ, but a lot of facts from his cases have been made public record. They're both far cries from the McClain and Hardy incidents. Anyone with logical reasoning could see the reasonable doubt when the facts came out about Hardy's case.

Clark's are pretty indisputable, and i'm not a fan. But to each their own. If he comes to Dallas, I'll hope he has a great career and can keep his nose clean.

I've spent a lot of time reviewing the details of Hardy's issue. I don't even feel lkme studying the issues for all of these draft picks.

I know the info we get is often wrong. There was a lady that posted that she was there when the college player was reported to have pulled the stop sign out of the ground. She says he definitely did not pull it up.

He was not a 7th round pick and they got a lot of production from him when he played. I think they got 4 years from him. They could have moved on after his rookie contract and would have gotten more production from him than most 4th round picks. The Cowboys got nothing from McSurdy because it requires talent to play in the NFL. They could have had Burfict with that pick.

I don't know that we need more "troubled" souls on the team. Yes McSurdy is a wasted pick, but at the same time we got Ron Leary and Cole Beasley for free that same year so it evens out. Guys with character issues are taken off teams boards for a reason. A former Bucs GM was mentioning the other day that they took Justin Blackmon off their boards after they sent a spy to the Ok St.campus and saw him hitting the local bars too often. If Cleveland had done its homework on Manziel they would've known the guy likes to party way too much. In Franke's case, if he walks like a duck....

Yes, they had this scout stay in that bar from 3 to 11 everyday for a week.

That was a 1st round pick. Early picks have out and power because they know they are unlikely to be cut. They have clout in the locker room because of their draft status. Late round picks have none of that.

They Cowboys need to do their due diligence on these players and not just go by media reports.

Don't disagree with his ability BUT.....

He already has TWO domestic violence offenses already. Let just say JJ hires a baby sitter full time so he doesn't get in trouble for 1-2 years maybe. Hard to baby sit during off season....Let's say he has success which bring money and women.....do you pay him or just let him walk...because I don't think you can trust a guy who's got that type of history with boat load of money.

I'll pass and let someone else deal with his problems.

No homework needed, it was written on the wall.

Still don't need the headaches.

I hear you man, and you're probably right that he won't end up in Dallas.

I just like the lower round talented picks where the cost is minimal and the upside is great. I was also one who wanted to spend a 4th or 5th on Tyrann Mathieu because of his talent. Of course Dallas never brought him in for a visit and Arizona drafted him before I would have been willing to take him, so it was a moot point anyway.

It is interesting to note though that the Cowboys did bring in Clark for a visit after his charges had been reduced down to the smalles misdemeanor that you can have.

Just curious, did you read what the investigating officer was on record saying about the incident?

A female hotel employee who was the first to check it out told the officer that Clark told the female employee *I will punch you like I punched her", then shoulder checked her on the way out of the room. The gf wasn't drunk and she had visible marks on her. Clark was hammered. A hotel guest also observed the gf unconscious in the hotel room.

Yeah the charges were reduced (because the gf didn't want to pursue anything and the DA can't do anything in that instance), but it still sounds pretty bad.

This is in addition to a felony charge that he was able to get off his record through fulfilling probation previously. Meaning, the case wasn't dropped, it was basically a conviction, but he was allowed leniency due to some legislative act in that state.

I get what you guys are saying, and getting a guy that can really contribute to your football team is always a plus. But, the dude's kinda crazy, not in a good way.

The problem is that he had numerous scrapes at U of M. He stole a laptop computer out of a dorm room, beat up his girlfriend in front of her little brother, etc....guy is a complete dirt bag.
