Note that my argument is strictly about the feasibility of a Roy for Brandon trade... it was made in rebuttal to that specific scenario, and I could see a trade being workable if it involved draft picks, or a trade for a player or players without a recent new deal like Roy's...

I still wouldn't want to go that route, but it would work given the numbers...

Even if we did trade future picks or whatever for Brandon Marshall, we would still find ourselves in an impossible situation.

Marshall would want a top dollar contract extension upon arrival.

That's why he's making noise.

Money.

That would be a no can do with Demarcus Ware's contract soon to be redone.

For better or worse, we made our wideout plunge last year with Roy Williams.

Bryan Broaddus said on 103.3 today that he asked some people at Valley Ranch about this, and they've done a ton of homework on this guy. Their conclusion is that he's a total wackjob and we aren't interested in him at all.

Thank god. I think that's what most people on here were trying to say.

OK, that's 4 million... now, what would be the cap hit for trading Roy?? Then, what would be the cap hit for signing Ware??

And of course, we're talking FIRST YEAR cap hit there; obviously, subsequent years would see that number go up considerably...

But thanks for filling in one part of the equation, that's a useful start; Adam's numbers are the gold standard, I would never think to challenge them... I accept that figure without reservation, while noting that's a best case scenario, and suggesting that would maximize the hit in later years, creating major cap problems, so I think his first year hit would be more in the range of 5 to 6 mil... as would Marshall's, just guesstimating... which would leave 5 mil or less to be absorbed by Roy's remaining signing bonus...

So I repeat my opinion that trading Roy for Marshall would render it all but impossible to reup Ware... Alexander's reference to what Jerry said about TO ignores that was made without any thought of trading Roy for Brandon, and thus is irrelevant to this argument...

By the way it would be the full acceleration his year of any cap signing since the collective barring agreement has been killed so everything accelerates to this year no more spreading it out. This was stated by Adam and I will not even try to refute that argument on salary cap matters.

Then add this to the equation

The Cowboys and Williams agreed to a five-year extension worth $45 million, including more than $20 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen. The contract language is still being finalized.

I really don't care what we have to give up, just go get him.... I don't care if he is a problem child (what NFL star isn't some are just quite about it)... Our receivers we have now are injury prone and can't really be depended on. He is young, fast, and has great hands. He would definitely add some juice to our offense!!!!

So your answer to covering for injury prone wr's is to go get somebody thats probably one more off field flub away from a major suspension.

Brilliant!

Marshall caught 104 passes for 1,265 yards and six TDs last season. But he had several crucial fumbles and also dropped 18 on-target passes, something he blamed on the nerve damage in his right arm, which he said he put through a television set while horsing around with his brother a year ago in the offseason.

Clearly we just have to have this on our team in order to have a chance.

I certainly wouldn't want Marshall on the team, so don't misunderstand what I'm about to say, but if the cost was "just" draft picks, the Boys could find the cap room to get Ware and Marshall signed for this year... from what I've read, Marshall wants 9 mil a year, which means a contract could be designed that wouldn't impact this year's cap much more than 5 or 6 million... this would leave plenty of money to get Ware done, particularly if the Boys were willing to backload Demarcus' contract (but I think Jerry would actually prefer to frontload it, have the biggest cap hit the first two years of the deal)...

So from a cap perspective, the problem is two or three years down the line, when those two deals would leave the Boys with little to no maneuvering room...

To repeat, though, I don't want Brandon Marshall playing for the Dallas Cowboys at any price... he can't keep his temper in check, and he's a suspension waiting to happen...

Just stop SilverBear..just stop. Your being too dramatic and your completely wrong.

If that's the case, rebut my assertions...

Stop acting like you know everything.

I certainly know that trading Roy Williams for Brandon Marshall would make it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to sign DeMarcus Ware to a contract extension... once again, if you can disprove that, take a shot...

Until then, I rather doubt that you'll be able to get me to "just stop", given that I have little to no respect for YOUR football knowledge...

Want to borrow my sig?

Naw, it represents your posts quite nicely... even the pic of Kobe tells us that, like JVita, you have a curious fondness for punk athletes...

what if we just gave up a second? then no cap hit for roy's bonus?

im just sayin. you are gettin a lil serious tho, these are just bogus theories that wont happen.

and by the way, if my thinking is correct, if there is a cap next year we would be Way under it even with ware's contract after all the dead money is dropped, so pushing money out over the years wouldn't hurt us too bad.

just puttin up counterpoints.

love how everyone just assumes that everyone is a bad person and we dont need anyone else- stanback will be a star! :moon:

How many zoners cheat on there wives? To me, thats just as bad as beating a woman. Im just sayin no one is perfect, but yet ppl here are very quick to judge from thier high horse. Not sayin we need him, but yall forget this is a football team, not a life team - if he can show out and not cause problems, who gives a f ck what he does when not in uniform.:bang3:

What a freakin asinine post. Lets start with a bad person. This is not his first issue it he has a repeated history going back to before he was drafted. Please he is labeled a bad person because he has acted like one for years.

Now the Stanback comment shows that you have no concept of the NFL and how it works. It is not just about talent it is also about money and contracts. Guess what you can not just go out and spend and get what ever you want on every shinny object there is a short term and a long term cost. There is also a risk reward you have to way and the guy is a powder keg ready to blowup in your face.

Lets move on to your last statement is total garbage. First beating a women is worse than cheating on her any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Throwing everyone that post under the bus as cheaters is laughable at best.

Please he is labeled a bad person because he has acted like one for years.

Do the DUI's make him a bad person? Or the charges that he has not been convicted of? This america right? Guess he a rich black guy with an attitude so he guilty. he very well may be, but it is NOT up to us to decide.

and yes i know..The league doesn't require convictions for the commissioner to suspend a player. ...

Now the Stanback comment shows that you have no concept of the NFL and how it works. It is not just about talent it is also about money and contracts.

If you are implying that we need cheap recievers to fill in the spots your right, but it would help if they were on the field to be able to do that. :laugh2: **** i like Jefferson better from the PS.

Guess what you can not just go out and spend and get what ever you want on every shinny object there is a short term and a long term cost.
There is also a risk reward you have to way and the guy is a powder keg ready to blowup in your face.

Every shiny object no, a person who could be a consistent pro bowler for a long, long time, yes, find a post where i advocated bringing in any other SHINY object.

Short term cost huh? when he could outlast every player on our team but a few rookies. I understand your point, but personally feel that the risk would be outweighed by the reward.

Lets move on to your last statement is total garbage.

I guess breaking your marital vows is better the allegedly slapping your girlfriend.:bang2: To each his own.

Throwing everyone that post under the bus as cheaters is laughable at best.

Did i call everyone cheaters no, did i suggest that most have some faults in their lives that could be comparable ,yet they arent subject to being called a piece of trash? Yes. And your post isnt gonna change that. Thats your opinion. The point being that no one is perfect and ppl are too quick to judge and judge from a righteous perspective. yes i am sure there are some here that have the right because they live rightesously, but knowing my fair share of americans i know this is not the case for most.

Sorry that i dont feel comfortable bashing a man with no personal knowledge of the situation except some **** heard from a dumb *** sports writer with an agenda. This is the real world man, you call your neighbor a horrible person cause he caught a DUI? Or all the guys that have been caught on the way home from the boys games over the years?

Where are the pictures of this woman bruised and beaten up? And no i dont think everyone who has been involved in a Domestic Dispute is a horrible person.

They call Marshall "baby T.O. I'm guessing it's for more reasons involved than just catching TD passes.

Williams, Witten, Austin, Crayton will do just fine without the extra drama in Texas, besides anything that would have a effect on signing arguably the best DE/OLB in the game, is a no no.

Pound the rock, we're good !;)
