When you compile a list of the top 100 players in the NFL it's a major undertaking. You need to look at the stats, the type of talent, the opponents played against, almost everything. Pro Football Focus recently came out with its Top 101 players and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant wasn't listed. Bryant earned his first Pro Bowl berth in 2013 after catching 93 passes for 1,233 yards with 13 touchdowns. He finished tied for third in touchdowns and was fifth in first downs earned (67) for players at his position.

Steve Palazzolo of PFF wrote a column about Bryant missing the list.

Palazzolo wrote in part: "Just going through Bryant's positives and negatives have me going back and forth about Bryant's inclusion on the list. He has the ability to take over and dominate a game, and he certainly did that his fair share of the time in 2013, but his pedestrian finish is tough to overlook. When combined with the deep class of wide receivers, it made it difficult to find a place for Bryant, though I still think he should have landed somewhere in the 90's."

More importantly Romo and Witten left off. Murray makes it at 76 and Smith at 44

Not really an outrage, just something that should make you chuckle at why PFF gets any level of credence whatsoever. Might as well use the NFL player top 100. It may not use as much "science" but it is just as much of a joke.

I knew what you meant. But there are some outraged folks who may not have clicked on the thread yet. There are already some who are upset Romo and Witten, two players clearly not on the upswing as Bryant is, did not make it.

I have always felt that individual recognition is useless. I would not care if no single Cowboy made the Pro Bowl, some pundits' top 10 or anything else if the whole team was good. In fact, the fewer superstars you have the less individuals you have. I would rather have 53 workers that can play together and for each other than 4 superstars who are concerned about themselves and their own standing amongst their peers. Everyone does their job well enough, it takes care of itself.

PFF is a joke of a list and always exclude players that are a no-brainer to make any top100...noone should be surprised at this

Evan Mathis is the 7th best player in football.

Got it.

And how Trent Cole made the list over other defenders is hilarious. Philly drafted Smith to basically take Cole's spot. LOL.

I love me some Murray, but come on... you can't tell me that he's a better talent than Dez. Even if it was Dez at 76, I'd still say that's a bit low.

Especially PFF.

LOL! PFF is a joke. Again, after the 2012 season based on their extensive film work and analytical player breakdowns they declared Nate Livings "a stud!" nuff said.

Agreed...well except for the HOF...that I do care about. :)

Different list my friend. Dez will undoubtedly make the NFLN top 100.

Most important thing you need to consider when looking at this:

From PFF

• WE ARE NOT SCOUTS — We aren’t looking for (or grading) style or technique, merely the result of the play. We aren’t looking for promise and potential that can be coached up. We aren’t looking for things like “heavy-legged waist benders” on the O-line. We aren’t looking for DBs with “stiff hips.”
