Right but to say we can't afford Romo is bologna. If we can't afford Romo at $85-90, then we'll never afford the next guy at $120+.

At 90 mil, that is 18mil per year for 5 years any way you slice it if Romo demands an all guaranteed contract. I'm not sure the Boys & JJ will want to swallow that pill. Probably better to let Orton take a beating for a year, go 1x15 next year and draft Johnny Football to take the team to the next level. Our over 30 stars are on the way down...Time to reload....

You do realize that standard contracts still have the guaranteed money built in, right? You are making it out like If Romo sign a $85-90mil deal, that he won't have guaranteed money.

I'd expect 30-40 of it to be guaranteed. He's helped this team out entirely too much on and off the field for them not to give the guy some insurance.

They won't. Brady's gaunteed money is that of a around a $120mil contract.

I wouldn't pay him a penny more than Brady just got. How could anyone justify Romo being higher paid than Brady? I would offer the same exact extension, all guaranteed, and tell Romo to take it or test free agency next year. If he doesn't take it, you change your draft plans and look for a QB sooner than you would otherwise. Like it or not, Brady set a new market for QBs. Lower overall numbers but all fully guaranteed. If you think Romo will be the guy for another 4 or 5 years, then you match it and if he says no, you move on. There is no way I am paying Romo nearly twice what Brady makes. I don't care what the previous QB market was, Brady's deal sets a new market and I move on if my QB isn't willing to do what Brady did.

That is my premise...We should prepare to trade Romo on draft day to the highest bidder because I don't think Romo's agent is going to sign for any discount at all.

That's my guess too. $85mil with 40 guaranteed. So nowhere near Brady.

A lot of pro scouts are saying that Johnny Football won't translate into as good of a pro QB as a lot of people are thinking.

I'm sold on the kid personally, I don't think you walk into Tuscaloosa and single handedly beat Bama unless you can ball - but I've seen a lot of Big 12 guys (i know he's SEC now) put up huge numbers and develop a lot of hype to completely flame out in the NFL.

This is Romo's last rodeo and his last chance to cash in. If I were him, I would rather play for Minnesota than that sieve of an offensive line JJ has assembled...JMVHO.

Great minds, I just texted my co-worker and said he's gonna get 80-90 per over 5 years and 30-40 of it will be guaranteed.

He's had no major injuries like Brady (torn ACL), he's younger, granted he doesn't have the resume - but even a legend like Tommy B wouldn't suceed dropping back 62 times a game behind this line, with this running game, with no defense, and a HC that gives games away at times.

Romo has only a few good years left at best... Time to build a strategy to get our next franchise QB. Johnny Football is as good an alternative as there is right now. Could be someone else proves to be better next year. Time to get rid of the bloated contracts and start over with a younger, cheaper alternative. I think.

We'd have to win 3 games or less to have a shot at him next year, assuming he comes out - he had a redshirt year so he is eligible.

I'd rather wait till next year, in a QB deep draft and go after a guy early in the 2nd or 3rd and start planning for life after Romo.

It's not like Dallas hasn't tried, they liked Dalton and Kapernick a lot. And had we had a chance I'm almost certain Garrett would've taken both of them in the 2nd.

Might not be a bad thing to have a young hot shot waiting in the wings putting a little extra heat on Romo as opposed to guys like Brad Johnson, Jon Kitna and Kyle Orton - guys that could never threaten his job at any point.

I don't at all mind bringing in a possible future ringer. But thinking we can some how light a fire under Romo? I don't see how anyone could want to win much more than he does already, AC.
He's a film room junkie and will play the game in a cast if you let him.
