Thomas takes it slow: Former Dolphins middle linebacker Zach Thomas isn't ready to sign a deal with a new team this week. He made visits to the Patriots and Saints and had an offer from the Patriots, which intrigues him. Thomas does plan to wait until next week in order to make visits to the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. With the combine going on this week, it's going to be hard for a top player on the street to link up with a team. Thomas will try to get something done next week.

Stupid to entertain the thought. Hes a great guy and all but hes too old.

If he still has anything left in the tank and he comes cheap IMO we bring him in. His football IQ is as high as their is and he can bring some much needed toughness and fire to the defense.

He and Junior Seau would be great together. They could trade stories on AARP discounts.

I know some of you are wondering, and wanted a little more on Zach Thomas. So here's what we got, expanded from the bit in this morning's paper ...

As we reported, the Cowboys have a Tuesday meeting set up with Thomas and Drew Rosenhaus at Valley Ranch. But because of overwhelming demand for his client, Rosenhaus said that Thomas may make his way here to Indy, where he can meet with multiple teams, in which case the Dallas meeting might get moved up and held at the combine to save everyone the trouble.

Thomas has already visited the Patriots and Saints, and the Jets, Texans and Bills, among others, remain interested.

On a completely unrelated note, check DMN alum Matt Mosley's item on St. Xavier K Shane Longest. Starts out pretty normal, then takes a very sharp turn. I'd think that anyone who enjoys a check-up this much would raise questions in the minds of NFL execs.

Yep. The Pats would be fools not to sign him up ASAP.

Or maybe they could talk about Hawaii, since they've both been there so many times?

Or maybe who cares? If the guy signs somewhere and continues to produce then it really doesn't matter what his age is.

I'm not interested in having him in Dallas (unless he came here for the absolute minimum) but that doesn't mean he's for sure going to suck no matter what.

would you rather talk about where romo ate last night?

Hmm... The fact that he's even bothering to talk to the Texans tells me that being back in his home state might mean something to him.

It's fine to talk to him at the combine, but we need to get him back to Dallas also so Jerry can show him the Lombardis and let him feel at home. :)

Good point. I think the reason he hasn't already signed with the Patriots means he's inclined to 'come home'.

And I think a trip to Valley Ranch would help sweeten the deal as well.

Not sure how Thomas would be used in Houston where DeMeco Ryans is the starting MLB. Thomas may be a savy vet but Ryans is a much better MLB than Thomas is.

I honestly feel zach really dosent want to sign with the pats, but he will if he can't find a better offer. Other than Marino you won't find a more popular dolphin over the last 15 years. The guy is a true dolphin and going to the pats would be the ultimate stab in the back. I don't think thomas would enjoy the hoopla everytime he played the dolphins. I just think dallas is just a courtesy stop. He could get more money elsewhere, but other than New england he won't win big. Phillps speaks highly of him, but I just don't see him coming here.

We don't need a small, aging linebacker coming off an injury. Add in the fact that he's not exactly a fit for the 3-4 and we have our answer. Sorry, but no.
