News: ESPN: Colts Release Moore

Thanks and thanks to everyone else with that information. It's good to know that he requested the cut, I would hate to think he left on bad terms considering his story.

He's not as big as Downs but he would have to be a pretty tough hombre to be able to cover the slot while averaging 64 solo tackles and 84 combined tackles per full season.

Yes, he's an older veteran but when you look at the 90's Cowboys secondaries, you see a great mix of youth and experience. They really relied on some older guys like Ray Horton (32), Bill Bates (31) and Issaic Holt (30).

They brought in additional older veteran free agent DBs such as Thomas Everitt (29) and James Washington (28).

Together with young draft picks like Kevin Smith, Larry Brown, Darren Woodsen, Dave Thomas and Brock Marion, the 90s defensive backfield ranked in the top 8 in both passing defense and INTs throughout the early 90's.
People said the same about Lewis, he wasn’t that big, but you don’t need to be huge to play football if you’re tough. Turpin is one of the smallest guys in the NFL, yet no one really talks about how durable he is for his size. He’s not injury-prone, even though he plays special teams, which can be rough, and sometimes runs plays behind the line of scrimmage as a running back. If you want more examples, I’ve got plenty.

Sure, he’s on the smaller side, but he’s been in the NFL for a long time. The knock on him now is his age, plus he probably wants too much money, so he’ll likely end up on a one-year prove-it deal. He could wind up like Jennings from San Francisco, betting on himself, then making much less than what was originally offered. Now Jennings has to prove himself in Minnesota on a one-year deal worth about $4 million less than what he could have gotten on a longer contract with San Francisco.

They said that about the draft pick, and I really wanted that guy, Ponds, I think his name was. One of the fastest players in the entire draft, not just at his position, with almost the same height, speed, and position as Darrell Green. You remember him from Washington, check his size chart, he’s even listed an inch taller than he actually was.

I’m sure the player we ended up with will be fine, but I really wanted Ponds for the slot role. Some guys get greedy, bet on themselves, and lose, but if he’s willing to come here on a super team-friendly deal for the Cowboys, I’d take him for one year. It would help the defense’s transition to have an experienced slot guy, especially since Bland has already said he prefers playing outside.

Downs will be a nickel corner, but I don’t think you want him in that role full-time, that’s not why you drafted a safety to play corner.

But if they don't land Moore, they don't it's not a big deal it's not a big need right now, but it'd be nice to have insurance with all the injuries to our secondary, there's question marks with Revel and Bland...

If they end up landing him the confusing thing is going to be our rookie corner from Florida is also named Moore, lol
