You know...maybe, maybe I owe little eddie an apology...

Leadership no doubt starts from the top and I criticized my pal eddie for the use of unammed sources, sensationalism, etc...BUT...lack of leadership at espn may be to blame...

Think about their last week alone:

a) Pulling the Big Ben stories (look, I DON"T believe this lady, BUT the story came from a LEGAL SUBMISSION, not an unammed source), and remember what you did to Irvin the 2nd time my friends,

b) Erin Andrews/NY Post Reporters being dismissed for printing photos (and make NO DOUBT, I truly feel sorry for this poor girl)...IDIOTS,this thing was on the web for 6 months and NOBODY knew about it until you MORONS sent legal messages to the no name website that it was on,

c) The Mike Vick 4 game suspension story yesterday...how do you report a story from sources and then pull it?!?!?!?!? Fact check, and colloborate...you do not always have to be first. Just be right,

d) Colin Cowherd (who loved to kill me over yelling at eddie) had a report on Mike Holmgren from a source...AND believe it or not it was wrong and we haven't heard anything about it since then...

So, with that being said I now understand the pressure that morons like werder are under from their incredubly incompetent superiors. It is much like our beloved players trying to work under the embarrasment of last year's xiaxhing staff and the football genious of one jerry jones...

So ed...today i officially send to you...

Actually no...you still are an idiot. Rise above TMZ style reporting (which sadly has a better track record recebtly than your organization) and be better than this garbage. If not, you are still a yellow journalistic hack.

Werder was on espn 103 the other day. It would have been great if you could have called in.

What's hilarious is that you will get the defenders saying that 'Mr. Blue Suit is a highly respectable reporter.'

By whom?

Oh wait, he's highly respected by other reporters. Actually more like highly respected by other ESPN reporters and writers (I know of a couple of writers who thought his report on Owens was shoddy at best).

Unfortunately most people tend to believe what they are told, so then the readers/viewers say that he's a respectable reporter as well.

Owens is gone now and it's best that we put it behind us (and I'm still an Owens fan and thought he got jobbed by Werder), but the big issue here is that the reporters/writers/journalists have pretty much ZERO recourse when they do shoddy, sensationalistic journalism.

ESPN is perhaps the worst of the bunch as they seemingly will not get rid of anybody, even if they are flat out sexually harrassing fellow employees. So certainly nothing will happen if they use a really suspect anonymous source or use blatant lies and mistruths in reporting a story. So calling out Mr. Blue Suit while he's 'reporting' a story from Valley Ranch to me is justice.

But what's really sad is the Roethlisberger case and ESPN's unwillingness to report it until they pretty much couldn't avoid it any longer. Their unwillingness to report the Favre story was pretty bad, but they had a very small leg to stand on since it was reported from a journalist from a different network and his sources that he went thru (Glazer is professional enough to get multiple sources when reporting a 'rumor').

But the Roethlisberger situation is simply inexcusable (although I don't believe the woman either). That should show Cowboys fans that ESPN does indeed have favorite teams and teams that they hate and that the favored teams they will avoid reporting stories and the hated teams they will just report anything negative that they can get their hands on.

Hopefully next season when ESPN starts in with their garbage against the Cowboys (and you know it will happen) more and more Cowboys fans will see thru this garbage.

I heard the Big Ben situation wasn't reported earlier because espn would have had to credit pro football talk as the source breaking the story.

That's never stopped them before.

But the main point is it was a civil suit, you cannot forego reporting something like that even if you don't believe the accuser (which I don't).

Here's a great column ripping BSPN to shreds:

Exactly, that is the issue at hand, ESPN is closer to the WWE than something like Sporting News. They way they exaggerate their news reports, just like PFT, it is unbearable for true fans. I work with a Dolphins and Eagles fans at work and they agree that ESPN is a hack, and that most of their news is found not by journalism but like you said, exaggerating the truth and crossing the line between news and guesswork.

Dont expect to much out of ESPN, Their mission is all about, ESPN = Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, Nothin about ESPN relflects, reliablile or credible reporting or journalistic standards. Denny Green said it best, "They are who we thought they are" just another tom dick and harry providing Sporting Entertainment similiar to TMZ.

And just think Yakuza, a couple of weeks ago Greg Ellis threw the Cowboys under the bus. Yet did anyone do any research that showed Ware played 1021 of 1046 defensive plays? It sure didn't stop Golic, Cowherd, and Schlereth from titling the Cowboys as "Disfunctional"!

They just could not wait to slam the Cowboys.

It is a great example of how the BSPN employees think (and many writers in the DFW area and other media outlets)...instead of getting an accurate source, they prefer to just take whatever this source says negatively about the Cowboys and doing any type of fact checking is completely ignored.

After having heard and read more about the Big Ben incident, I agree with you. ESPN dropped the ball on that story, especially since it published other allegations involving civil suits.

Big Ben gained some weight. I wonder if BSPN will comment on his weight gain ;)

They do get rid of their employees, if they speak out against ESPN. They have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to criticism of the company. See: Jason Whitlock.

ESPN does some quality sports reporting, but for the most part, you've hit the nail right on the head.

Yeah, it seemed like Whitlock basically had enough with BSPN and just ran off his mouth (although IIRC what he was saying was right) and then got fired knowing he would be fired and was okay with it.

Uhhh, no.

They also work for ESPN affiliates.

But basically they have the same line of thought that I have. One anonymous source when reporting a 'rumor' is not sufficient. Furthermore they have agreed with me that it's entirely not sufficient to have only one anonymous source when the two have a grudge against each other.
