OXNARD, Calif. -- J.J. Wilcox isn't just the other guy in the first fight at Dallas Cowboys training camp. The player who put a big hit on Dez Bryant and connected with a roundhouse right when the receiver took umbrage is a huge part of the Cowboys' defensive plans for the foreseeable future. Wilcox, a third-round pick in his second season, entered camp atop the depth chart at the safety spot next to Barry Church and has done nothing but put distance between himself and the field the last couple of weeks.

I'd like to see Wilcox develop into a "foundation piece" but on a totally different note: He does not look like he is 6' tall. Dez towers over him in that video.

Note: He really thinks he was a 1st-round pick? o_O

They could be a very big "boom" pick for this ball club. I like the player and believe he has his head on straight. Now can he put it all together? That's the big question

His height is one of the reasons I would like him to eventually take Church's role and to bring in a true rangy FS. I love Wilcox's athleticism either position but think his real impact would come from covering the hybrid TEs/Scatbacks that kill this team. This would allow him to be involved in run support but also available as the "force" in the secondary that could deter mid range crossing routes. I read our Safeties are interchangeable but then turn around and read coaches do designate different priories, etc.

I am not buying this at all but I would be nice to hit on a safety in the draftv.

Wilcox 6000 (6'0)

Dez 6020 (6'2)

Dez always looks bigger than 6'2 to me.

I'm glad to see Wilcox doing good in camp, but he has to maintain this play. Last season he there was a lot of talk about him in camp but he did not bring it to the field. With a year of experiance under his belt and a better grasp of the defense he needs to bring it when it counts.

I liked JJ coming out. He was one of my "Mock Draft guys" that I got right. He has the ability to start in the league for 10 years. I thought he played ok for a rookie last year, until the injury.

Completely agree. I like Church, but JJ can give you all of the same stuff plus some extra athleticism. Partner JJ with a rangy ball-hawk type and you have a dynamic pair of safeties.

I love Wilcox, but I'll never understand this franchise's love for giving guys the mantle instead of letting them earn it.
idk if JJ is the guy to use for that....They brought in a vet to be the Day 1 starter and then never gave him the starting spot back after he returned from injury.

Hoping and praying that Wilcox will turn into the player he's capable of being. It would help this team immensely. Same can be said about Claiborne, but I personally feel that Wilcox has a better chance.

Can you imagine both panning out this year? MoCox: defensive studs for years to come.

One can dream.

I have not been shy in voicing my disdain over the Claiborne pick but I do hope that he proves all his naysayers wrong. This team needs him to be an impact player.
