ESPN: Cowboys rookies Chidobe Awuzie, Lewis Neal impress early

According to some article, Lewis Neal is the first African American athlete to start an investment firm on the foreign exchange market. He became an investor while still in college at LSU. Not sure how that works but pretty unique.
well hopefully that means he is mature, hard working, dedicated, and hungry for success....if so, we might have us a real steal.

So, just so I am clear.

Lewis Neal is the new camp phenom to watch? And claw your own eyes out when he is cut?

I find him intriguing but I won't be surprised at all if he doesn't make it. His height works against him on this level, but he's been able to succeed at a high level of college ball despite it. I believe his weight at that height coupled with decent movement skills and hustle have gotten him this far. He's the type of long shot that it's easy to get behind.

Neal and White. Wonder if one or both will surprise.

Thus far, it seems they might -- let's hope the good reports continue. Depth is always a great resource to make a team better. For Neal, being six foot even and pushing 300 pounds definitely makes him one DE with a low center of gravity, if nothing else -- lol. Reportedly, he's quick off the ball, so that should stand him in pretty good stead. He'll be one who's interesting to keep track of in the weeks ahead.

Yes, he's a fireplug.

I like this news about Neal but there are so many DE's in camp he'll have a hard time making the 53
and I worry if he has a good camp he'll never make the PS

It's always questionable if someone like him will last long enough to make it onto the PS, that for sure. In Neal's case, other teams will be making certain to keep track of his success, whether he has it or not. He'll probably have to make an impact in the preseason to make it to the 53 this year, I would imagine. Perhaps the suspensions of several other DEs might open the door for him to get a foot past the threshold? I guess we'll see.

Being short, he'd have to have fantastic showings for someone to claim him. But with Irving and Moore suspended at the beginning of the season, if he did show well, we'd probably keep him for at least the first couple of games. I think he's behind the eight ball because of his height, meaning that he'd have to outplay players with more ideal height to be kept over them. He can't just match the eighth, ninth or 10th-best lineman and expect to make the team.

LSU switched to a 3-4 his senior year and his tackle and sack totals fell off from 2015. Didn't really fit as a 3-4 end and rarely had the chance to "tee off" on the QB last season.

I feel like we get one of these 4-3 to 3-4 college guys a year. Maliek Collins, Tapper, Taco (was in a 3-4 for first two year IIRC), etc. Great scouting by FO.

I feel the Lewis Neal bandwagon growing.

And all it took was a couple of blurbs from a media that everyone says not to trust.

This is good stuff going on right here.

Dwight Freeney is just 6'1...so there is some precedent for a short DL.

There's also this: Freeney ran a sub 4.5 40 when coming into the league...w/40 inch vertical.

Little piece of trivia: In his college days... Against Virginia Tech, Freeney sacked elusive Hokies quarterback Michael Vick 4.5 times in one game.

Don't think Neal has quite the athleticism, but with our situation...Neal will get his chance.

did a little googling... Neal wasn't invited to combine but had some good numbers during his pro day evaluation:

At Pro Day, his 4.72 time in the 40 disappointed him but is in the top half of the defensive ends at the Scouting Combine last month. His 4.44 time in the shuttle matched that of Tennessee defensive end Derek Barnett, a projected first-round pick. He broad-jumped 9 feet, 9 inches and had a 36-inch vertical after his first jump was incorrectly scored at 31.

He's an athlete. And sounds like a great dude. I'll be pulling for him.
