LONDON -- Jason Garrett often says the Dallas Cowboys have a meritocracy, where no one is guaranteed a starting spot. That is one of the reasons Bruce Carter finds himself battling Kyle Wilber for the starting job at strongside linebacker. The other is that Carter is among the biggest enigmas on the team. Carter can be excellent and awful within the same drive, and it can occur multiple times within a game. "We believe in competition. We don’t believe in entitling a position or etching these positions in stone," Garrett said.

I guess that explains what many of you have been saying for a couple of years. I was slow to accept the lack of effort thing. It is very foreign to me when sports are concerned. But I saw it on that pass from McCoy to Reed towards the end when we needed a stop.
He gave up.

The coaches seem to openly grumble about Carter's effort about 2x a season.

Not a good sign for Carter's future in Dallas.

Rams owner I believe also owns Arsenal. My guess is he is a bigger soccer fan than football fan.

Not at all.

If you're getting this level of effort in a contract year, what should you expect from him once he does get paid?

I think he hits the market and if he gets anything more than an average offer the Cowboys just let him walk.

It's past time for them to wait on him to fulfill expectations based on his obviously impressive physical skills.

I kind of like Kyle Wilber. He was solid at SAM last year after they put him in there. This year, he's seen his role reduced but he made two nice plays in coverage against the Seahawks. Ultimately, he might not be a fit for the 4-3 but he's been solid when called upon.

I don't understand how you can complain about "effort" from a guy coming back from injury. I'm aware of his past and some instances of him not going hard as he can but as well as he was playing pre-injury I'm just wondering why you would equate it to lack of effort rather than the guy coming back from injury? They did this last year with Heath over Wilcox as well.

For me it was the charger game. He quit. Even if your confused Play ball, man.

Watch Bruce Carter more closely when he's playing in a game. Often times, I'll see the opposition's ball carrier going down field -- be it towards the sideline or whatever. You'll see #54 in the picture, but what is he doing? Jogging or slouching back. He makes no effort in catching up nor taking a proper angle. Either he's too dumb or he's lazy and I think it's the latter.

There are guys who literally come out of no where to make a down field tackle. There are guys who will sprint with everything they have to block for their teammates. Just like in the last game; Spencer on that Patmon INT.

Bruce Carter just isn't that guy and I wouldn't be upset if we didn't sign him.

Yeah this sounds good but Carter was playing lights out at SAM before the injury. You bring him back and play him at Will? He looked just like he did last year at Will, terrible. Put him at SAM, Kyle Wilbur should rotate in as a backup.

It's rare for Garrett to call out a player directly. Same for Marinelli.

I think Wilber is decent. The SLB in Marinelli's defense does not have to be great, but must be consistent.

The fact that it keeps coming up is so stark because it happens so rarely.

He's got lot a 5% chance of the be resigned. Coaches hate guys who they feel don't give 100%.

In just over 2 months from now Carter will have played his last game in a Dallas Cowboy uniform.

You know BDC I think you are right and it's a gosh damn shame. There are times BC is a monster that probably has JJ salivating with the best of them. There are also times where we are all wondering whether he was even in the game. I think you have to read less and less between the lines to know exactly what the staff thinks of BC and that's after this season he will NOT be a Dallas Cowboy.

I think he's gone. I think they resign McClain w lee and either hitchens/durant or draft someone early. IMO we go dline oline and linebacker. We were looking at shazier hard and wanted him until steelers beat us to it

Its time to just give up hope on Carter. A ton of talent but he lacks football IQ and the drive to maximize his potential.

A guy with his ability should never have to worry about Kyle Wilber taking his job.
