They could just be bringing in Felix to use as some sort of measuring stick or something. He came out of the same draft as dmc and probably got lots of data on him from his time spent here. They can see how badly he deteriorated and go off his current numbers from a workout. I hope he isn't a serious candidate. Such a waste of a 1st rounder.

Fisher says they were doing a favor to Felix and his agent. They've done similar things in the past. They like to stay on good terms with agents. Nobody will say it officially, but I think sometimes they get feedback from agents on things like the draft and which other teams are likely to draft certain players. Obviously, there are many reasons to be on good terms with agents. IIRC, Gregory and Collins has the same agent and the Cowboys had a lot of discussions during the draft with Gregory and his agent who were somewhat desperate for a team to draft him. This relationship might have helped them in acquiring Collins.

I think those words sum up the situation very well. What they're saying and what they're doing are two completely different things.

I applaud the vast majority of the team's recent decisions and moves, but I'm not sure if there's been more than a little arrogance on display in terms of the running back position.

Exactly. Us fans have been thru this before. An example is the oline and Costa. Look how many years it took to finally realize they were wrong. They say their comfortable but judging what we have now, I doubt that at all.

I just hope that it gets into their heads that anyone can run behind this oline. By the time they realize that not just anyone can do it, our window of opportunity has passed us by and Romo is already looking to retire.

Gurode was gone starting with the 2011 season.

Fred was drafted in 2013.

That's 2 seasons without a real Center.

Cutting Gurode came after the draft and was not planned. That was the lockout season, IIRC, and they were not prepared. The plan was for Costa to be the backup, but Gurode came in completely out of shape and had knee surgery that they didn't know about.

The did draft Nagy who looked like a potential Center before a career ending knee injury.

In 2012 they signed Bernadeau in large part because he could play both Center and Guard.

They tried to sign Holland for 2012 but he decided to retire. That forced Bernadeau to be a starting Guard.

Summary: They didn't really spend a lot of time trying to force Costa to be the starting Center.

I think pretty much every team comes out publicly saying they "like what they have" or "are comfortable with where they are" in regards to a certain player or position. I've always said it's more important to watch someone does rather than what he/she says, and in the case of the Cowboys and the RB situation, if they're different, fine. If they're telling the world they're comfortable with the RB situation, but privately working out or looking at a bunch of RB's, fine. Rather have it that way than the other way around. I'd be really anxious if they were saying how much they need to improve the RB situation, but then doing nothing about it. No, they didn't draft one, but I don't fault them for taking the players they did. They looked at several backs in the draft, and decided that most wouldn't be an improvement over what they have. Maybe they're right, maybe they're wrong. We worry that they're being too arrogant when it comes to the position. But to say we know that (insert name) would be better, is pretty arrogant, too. And don't bring up Gurley or Gordon, because we really didn't have a chance at those two. Would Coleman, Ajaiy (?), Duke, etc. have been improvements? Maybe, maybe not. Would I rather have one of them than Randy Gregory? Not right now.

For now, it's May. There's still a long way to go before we get to the season, and even then, there's still time to make changes if needed. Are they wrong in thinking the RB's they have will be good enough, and that we really don't need to add anyone? Perhaps. I personally could care less if they work out every available RB on the planet. It's what teams do. We'll bring in OL at some point. We'll work out a kicker. We'll work out LB's. I don't think the problem most are having is working players out. I don't think it's the notion that they're saying one thing and doing another. All teams do that, too. It's that there is so much unrest (at least among fans and media) with the current stable, whereas we feel a lot better about those other positions. Personally, I think that if the RB's we have stay healthy, we'll be fine. Remember, nobody was doing cartwheels about Murray at this time last year. We had hope, but we had a lot of concerns as well. Fortunately, things worked out. They may very well work out again. They might need to change.

Teams work out players for any number of reasons. Sometimes, it's because they're intentionally looking to improve or replace someone who got hurt. Sometimes, as in the case of Felix, it's as a courtesy. Sometimes, it's just seeing what's out there, in case a need arises down the line. They'll keep looking, and planning, and preparing, just as they should

Their actions don't reflect their words. Every decent RB prospect was brought in for predraft visits, but the draft didn't offer the opportunities to draft one. I think they had hoped the RB position would be undervalued and one of the better RBs would be available. They was so sure of this happening that they let Murray walk. I have read repeated quotes that they are comfortable with the RBs on the roster, but they are constantly looking for ways to upgrade the position. There is even trade talk and I think everybody has grown tired of the AP situation. It looks like they gambled and it didn't pay off. There has to be a touch of desparation in the air when they are working out Felix Jones. I would call that very desperate.

Actually they do.

They did not tag Murray and offered him well below what other teams did.
Free agency occurerd and they signed ONE guy. Bargain rate Darren McFadden.

The actual draft where they selected players saw them draft ZERO RBs.
Then they had UDFA where they signed 15 guys... yet ONE RB.

but, but, but veteran workouts... where Dallas signed no one???

Fans are the ones with desperation and tear-filled eyes.

The media leads you imbeciles around like a dog on a chain and you buy in with full hearts.

There are a ton of options ot upgrade ta RB if they so desire.
They have not shown any thus far, contrary to the cries of fans.
