IRVING, Texas -- The right side of the Cowboys’ offensive line was a problem last season.

“I’ve got to do a better job coaching because he does have potential,” Houck said. “He has got good size and he can still run. We’ve got to get the bending issue solved. We’ve got to get some things solved. We have identified some of the weaknesses. We’ve also identified the strengths. It’s my job now to get him playing better, so we’ll address some of the weaknesses now and go from that point.”

The best coaching in the world might not be able to help Colombo, whose biggest concern is deteriorating health, especially with his surgically scarred knees.

“That’s definitely an issue,” Houck said. “We’re not going to skirt that problem whatsoever. The knees are an issue. Now, he has already talked to [strength and conditioning coach] Mike Woicik about how he can get better core and leg strength without ruining the knees, and there are ways to do that.”

If I had to chose Id rather keep Davis b/c he can cut some weight and be more fluid. Colombo was just a wreck and he has more space to cover, way bigger liability on the edge

Some people say you cant replace 2 guys in one year as if they had some amazing cohesiveness that they would lose

hmmmm.....a coach not "skirting" the issue and actually admitting that two of his higher-profile players did NOT play well at all. Even talking about the obvious issues for both: Davis - always got in trouble when he wouldn't bend and Columbo - his busted kness. Kudos Hud.

Unfortunately Davis is too dumb to play RG. He used to be able to get by on physical talent alone, but he blows way too many assignments.

Pretty weird to be talking about a 10-year veteran's "potential".

Hasn't Houck had enough time to work on this "bending" problem?

And I wouldn't expect some magical new lift to save Colombo's knees. As much as I like Woicik, Juraszek was no dummy about this stuff.

I think Davis issues could be from the lack of a physical training camp and practices.

This. Hasn't it been known for a while that LD doesn't "bend" right?

Good point. I hope you're right speed.

Why would you want to save it? Columbo is done and Bigg is not worth the money.

Here is a tip for Davis. Stop calling plays where he has to pull, especially at the goal line. The guy is way too slow to be pulling. By the time he gets around the center, the LB is already in the backfield tackling our RB.

I'm glad Houck finally found out about Leonard Davis' "bending problem". The rest of the league has known about it for years.

I expect a whole lot of Valley Ranch Kool Aid to be passed around next August about how much more limber and mobile Colombo looks as he goes into next season as the starter without much serious competition.

Why is the word out that that the GM has a deal in the works to trade up for AJ Green?:laugh2:

Well they better put a jugs machine back there then, cause no QB will be standing upright. I can't believe the discussion is even ongoing that we can go into this season with the status quo on oline.

I was against Leonard Davis as much as anyone on this forum early in the season, but I actually thought he played quite a bit better once Garrett took over. Yeah, he's overpaid, but he fills a hole.

As for Colombo, he was clearly playing hurt. On one hand, I admire that. I think he is one of the real leaders on the team, and you can tell that everyone appreciates the hard work he puts in. I mean, Witten insists on giving him the football after touchdowns. So I would be careful about getting rid of a guy like that because I think it sends a bad message: "Yeah, hurry up and rehab, come back, and play injured, but when you aren't as good as you should be, be prepared to get cut." So I am fine with Colombo coming back to this team.

BUT...and this is one big but...you have to bring in real competition, especially for Colombo. I don't see how anyone can trust his legs to hold up, no matter how much you admire him. And if last season is as good as it gets, he has to be upgraded.

Even if we had career seasons out of David and Columbo that is fool's gold.
The guys are simply older players who really bang and take wear and tear on their bodies.

It is time to add new blood on the OL.

I won't cry if we bring back all the OL to camp but I'd cry if we don't have new talent to test them and replace them when the inevitable injury or age issue pops up.

Colombo must have made a copy of Campo's secret stash of pictures if he sticks around another season.
