The next starting QB that will take the field will most likely be a 1st round draft pick. Not a developmental player. I know its possible to develop a quality starting QB. But its highly unlikely.

I disagree....I think Jerry thinks he found the solution in finding a gem in the rough and not paying franchise money while he learns.

Id rather they spend a mid round pick soon on a development project than a first rounder a few years down the road on a plug and play guy. No matter when the guy is drafted, i want him to backup or 3rd string for at least a year.

QBs in round #3 don't sell tickets.

Clint Stoerner. This board was crazy with the usual comments "We have to play the young guys to see what we have."

Romo was a walk-on.

A starved fandom looking for an edge to get into the play-offs will accept hope over anything. I have no clue if this kid has anything at all. And because of the team structure, they cannot afford to keep him most likely.

But for sure if 9 went down and this kid was on the roster and the current #2 played like #2, this board would be calling for this kid.

There is a reason most franchise QBs are picked in the first round.

I think the better question is does Weeden have what it takes to be Romo's back up. Vaughn is a 4th stringer and is fighting for a 3rd string spot but he at least shows some play making ability and upside, I have not been that impressed with Weeden and he's playing with the #1's.

Weeden's arm or decision making is nothing special so far. I know he does not look off safeties very well either.

I haven't seen anything from Vaughan to warrant this much attention. Try to stash on the Practice Squad, if they can't, meh.

I'm quite relieved to see upper management is open to putting Vaughn on the 53-man roster, assuming he continues to impress. Of course that condition will be dependent upon his making a positive impression in the preseason games that remain. Assuming he can do so, I think we would safely assume he'll have staying power for at least the remainder of 2014. Anything positive to occur after that, of course, will depend solely upon his continued progress in the future. At least, he'll have an opportunity to remain.

First, this kid took his High School to State in Texas. Not a quick flash type of a kid, but a headsy and good kid.

In Texas, a lot of the kids from the smaller cities don't mind staying in state and going into the Lone Star Conference. West Texas A&M is one of those schools. Dustin Vaughan isn't just a small school kid which falls into a stereotype among the 'knowing' fans or ones without a kool aide vision.

As a freshman, he led them, strongly into the playoffs and to them to the National levels at Div II.

Now, before one starts to belittle that level of play, that's also the conference that Texas A&I played in, now Texas A&M-Kingsville. They only have three Hall of Famers from when I played until now: Eugene Upshaw (Tuck), Daryl Green, and John Randle. As to quarterback, Randy Johnson, a former Javelina also, he led the Gianst to a NFL Championship before the Super Bowl era started.

Stereotype that group of players, first, isn't in a sportsmanship vein, but it also denied legitimate talent getting an unbiased chance to excel at top levels.

Remember a diminished player by the name of Michael Stahan? He only came from a 'lowly' school in Houston, Texas Southern. Who, incidentally, often played the Javelinas.

Just give the kid with good leadership skills and some real talent, enough room to prove his own value in the NFL...and the Cowboys.

Funny how the Pats have taken two QB's in Mallett and Jimmy G in the past years, while they arguably have the 2nd best QB on the planet, but here we are up in arms about taking a flier on keeping three!

I guess it's slipped peoples minds, but Romo had another surgery and you never know.

Vaughan didn't know which way the receiver was going to break on a couple of his passes, so he is still learning the offense. He does seem pretty cool back there, so I hope we can keep him around and see what happens.

I think hand size (8 & 7/8 inches) was a major negative to Vaughan getting drafted too.

I think hand size (8 & 7/8 inches) was a major negative to Vaughan getting drafted too.

That won't be the first quarterback with some projected limiting feature.

Eugene Upshaw...the level of opponents
Daryl Green...small and could easily be dominated physically
John Randle...was released first by Atlanta as being lethargic and too small
