IRVING, Texas -- The standards are high for a first-round pick playing on the Dallas Cowboys' offensive line. Tyron Smith made an impact at right tackle as a rookie. Travis Frederick had a terrific rookie season at center. Yet right guard Zack Martin might end up having the best rookie season of all of them. “I think he’s in a better spot than I was when I was a rookie after my first game,” Frederick said. “I would say he’s probably at least to where I was halfway through the season.

when one starts to bad mouth my red peppered chili, he has gone too far...

I am really enjoying the picture of a young group of studs with the arrow pointing strongly up. I'm in hog heaven here. Give me one or two more studs and I'm grabbing a brew and planting my butt to watch.

I prefer maybe...The Gauntlet...

The offensive line pushed around the 49ers the whole game.

If Romo returns to form, that bodes well.

They did push 'em around pretty good. I'd love to see another back like R.Williams get another 7-8 rushes on top off what Demarco received. If we had that with Tony playing better, our offense would be a bully.

If those safeties start coming up to stop the run, that would be a new world for Dez.

Don't burn me at the stake for saying this, but how important is O-line? I'm not saying it's not important at all, but (sort of like WR) is an elite one necessary? I look at the elite offenses and I don't necessarily see a correlation to elite O-lines. Seattle had/has one of the worst O-lines in the league and their offense is more dynamic than ever. Denver had a bunch of nobodies before Peyton got there (taking injuries into account) and he made them look like a great wall. The Saints had a bad O-line for years. The Packers had a horrible one.

You know who has a great O-line? Tennessee. How good is their offense? Not very. Same could be said for Minnesota and some other teams.

Now, I'm not saying you shouldn't invest in O-line. But I'm saying that an elite D-line will have more of an impact on the game than an elite O-line. Are the Titans gonna win the Super Bowl? Not a chance. Do the Giants have two Super Bowl rings because of a dominant D-line? You bet cha.

There's no doubt Martin was a good pick, at this point

I'll give the front office points for that

Need to draft a future prospect at right tackle and this team will be set for years.

Not so sure. I think they move Martin to RT (even though I think he'd be best at RG). Apparently they really wanted to trade back into the 3rd to get Trai Turner in the draft. Turner was coming off injury so they were probably planning on stashing him his rookie year and releasing Free after this year. I'm not sure how serious they were about it since if they were really serious they would have done it. We'll see though. Much easier to draft a solid RG than a RT. You need to spend a 1st on a sure thing RT and we can't afford to keep spending 1st's on O-line.

Frederick's comments make sense to me. Frederick was a projected late 2nd to 3rd round pick. Martin, by contrast, was projected as one of the "can't miss" top ten players in the draft.

I am happy both are on board.

Thats nice to hear, but even without Martin, this line would be better than it was at this time last year, so he's better protected. Thats not taking away from my being glad that he's being effective, just saying its not really the same.

I heard a lot of high praise for MArtin going into the draft. This guy has all time great potential as a guard.

He's looked great all preaseason and he looked good in game 1.

I wanted Manziel but I've admitted all along that the Cowboys made the right pick.

I'll never understand the Manziel thing. To each his own.
Martin was a last choice best choice pick.
