If we were bringing him on to be a #1 or #2 corner, then I would be worried. With springs hurt, we have had a lot of depth issues at corner. Take the pittsburgh game for example, where Leigh Torrence was matched up against hines ward.

Hall is not the shutdown corner that the media makes him out to be. However, he will be a very good nickel corner for us, and should be a good addition to the secondary.

Also, with depth issues at strong safety, this may allow springs to get more reps back there in case of emergency.

the guy just isn't a very good man-corner, which is what you have your guys play

he bites on too many moves, gets caught peaking in the backfield

he would be better if you guys still played zone coverage

I have seen him make some pretty damn impressive punt returns with my own eyes many times over his 3 years at Virginia Tech (his last year at VT he had 4 punt returns for TD's and a defensive score)

He will be returning punts for us more regularly. ARE sucks at it

The funny thing with D'Lo is out of the context of football he is a great guy. Married a very nice girl. In the locker room though, he is cocky as hell and one of the most arrogant guys to ever play at Virginia Tech.

So am I too pleased? No not really. For the price and his potential ability, I will take him

Terrence Newman used to do the same thing in college

Don't think TO or Roy should be smiling. Springs will be back on TO, and pressing him off the line. If you remember, springs completely shut him down before going out with an injury. And roy...Carlos rogers can take care of roy. If Hall even plays our game in a couple weeks, he'll be playing nickel/dime and be matched with austin/crayton.

you mean Springs and his safety help shut TO down

the only reason he played so well is because he had no fear of giving up a big play w/ help over the top

Nope. Nothing is going to change for Hall simply by him changing teams. He's still going to be burned by any reciever that is at least average in ability.

Austin would burn the living piss out of Hall right now so I'd take that match up all day long.

But if you think that Garrett is going to see Hall playing in the nickel and he isn't going to try and get Roy or TO on him then you're crazy. Garrett will no doubt have seen film on Hall as well and he'll know that the best best, passing wise, for us is to get Roy or TO matched up on him.

And Springs, please dude, stop acting like Springs did anything on his own. Springs was able to get that physical cause he knew that he'd have over the top help at all times. Do you think they're going to keep over the top help on TO all the time now?

Great. If they do then Roy is going to have Rogers one on one and I'll take that match up every single day of the week and 9 times on Sunday nights.

Of course I guess they could always put the other safety over the top of him as well, so that they can let those corners believe that they're able to take TO or Roy one on one. Then that would only leave the matter of leaving the front seven to have to try and stop Barber and Felix on their own.

So, yeah, I'll take that match up every day of the week and 25 times on Sunday nights.

you would think that, but there have been worse 3rd corners we've seen, and Garrett hasn't moved TO to exploit it

No you wouldn't. As average as D. Hall might be, he still a much more accomplished and better player than Jenkins and Scandrick. He is also better than Anthony Henry.

all Hall has on our rooks is years in the league

to be established, you have to be, well you know...good

Hall isn't

I Am McLovin, Hall is going to be on his 3rd team in 2 years

that screams of journeyman to me, not an established player

I can only hope that Garrett is paying attention and moves TO around to make sure he gets him matched up with Hall in your nickel. If that happens it's good night Commanders for sure.

LOL like thats gonna happen

That statement, while true, is a bit misleading.

He played well for atlanta, and wanted to test the free agent market. He got a big deal with oakland. He underperformed, and was cut. If you factor in the fact that Al Davis is a certified irrational nutjob, and the fact that many players have not played well for oakland (Randy Moss ring a bell?), I dont think you can put all the blame on Hall. Nobody ever threw to the Raiders other corner, meaning Hall got a disproportionate amount of passes thrown his way. Way more passes = way more yards given up. He did manage 16 passes defensed and 3 INT's. While he did underperform, and is not a true "shut down" corner, he is still talented. Oakland is a black hole where good players go, and get their life sucked out of them.

I think he will play well in washington. Skins don't use a bump n' run coverage scheme, and do play zone a good percentage of their plays. Hall excels in zone, and will be not be matched up with a team's top receiver and thrown at 15 times per game. He's certainly far more talented than Leigh Torrence, who's spot he will be taking.

Good pickup by the Commanders. They added a starter to be their 3rd corner, that is a quality acquisition any way you slice it.

Not really a terrible move. Hes athletic enough to play as a backup role. They're paying peanuts for him.

He sucks as a #1 corner but if hes playing as a #3 or #4, at that price I think its a decent deal.

But not at all misleading to invoke a player that was in the HOF before he was ever traded to Oakland, in comparison.

If Hall "returns to form" in Washington, it will be because he's back playing with corners that are as average or worse than he is.

This reminded me of an FO.com article during one of Hall's "pro bowl" years:

I wouldnt call it good news.....

48 tackles, 16 pass defended, 3 Ints so far in 2008

Watch the damn games.

Hall is awful. He was awful in Atlanta and he was awful in Oakland.

The smartest thing he did was have 1 big game against Philly and hold up a send me to Hawaii sign.

Washington plays zone the majority of the time, always have under Gregg Williams and Blatche.

He played well for ATL, maybe his rookie year, but his last 2 years there were pretty forgettable, TO lit him up for 2 TDs, Chad Johnson lit him up for a couple, this was last year alone

he is talented though

it looks like you guys play very, little zone, I see Springs and Rogers matched up on WRs often

again, he is very talented, but he peaks into the backfield and bites on double moves and fakes alot, but you can hide him as the nickel corner, heck, he should do well against WRs like Patrick Crayton who can be flustered if someone mans up on them
